Character Overview

In his dreams, Heis often yearned to be a knight; however, due to racial bias, he was unable to openly fulfill this role during daytime.

Because of his exceptional abilities, Heismay was admitted into the covert division of the knighthood, known as the Shadowguard. This secretive unit conducts undercover operations and performs tasks such as deception and assassination, all for the sake of the monarchy.

During an out-of-town assignment, chaos erupted amongst the people of Paripus. Unfortunately, Heismay’s son got swept up in the ensuing panic, sustaining fatal injuries as a result.

Stricken with grief, Heismay departed from the Shadowguard and chose solitude on the periphery of Martira. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous individuals exploited his isolation and public image, falsely accusing him of kidnappings within the village and offering a reward for his capture.

While pursuing this reward, the main character and their companions ran into Heismay. In a series of events that stirred memories of his child, Heismay discovered the strength within him as the Thief Archetype, and chose to join them. Facing the world’s challenges bravely, he also delved into his past.

Heismay’s Bond Ranks Explained

His primary activities or engagements often take place at night, but there’s one instance that happens during the day within the context of his Bond.

In the principal narrative, there are crucial moments where engaging with Heismay is restricted, or it can only occur during your journey alongside the Gauntlet Runner. To ensure hassle-free progress in raising Heismay’s rank, we will provide you with a summary of the necessary conditions.

Rank One

Heismay reveals that he isn’t responsible for the child kidnappings in Martira and discovers evidence that the perpetrators are operating in an underground system beneath Kriegante Castle.

The team descends into a deep pit and discovers an underground sewer network. In this hidden lair, they uncover that Morris, one of Martira’s soldiers, has been abducting innocent children. Moved by compassion for these victims, Heismay summons the potent abilities of the Thief persona.

Afterward, as the main character prepares for bed, Heismay steps forward and confides in him about his history, revealing that he had once escaped from his own suffering. However, he now plans to utilize his recently acquired strength to assist the vulnerable instead.

To begin climbing the ladder of Heismay’s favor, it is essential to have a good command of eloquence. With your well-spoken words, you can persuade the Eugiefs that your association with them will be mutually beneficial, thus starting the initial dialogue.

Following his apprenticeship with the clandestine Shadowguard, Heismay extends an invitation to our hero for a beverage, regaling him with stories from his bygone days as they converse together.

In simpler terms, Heismay discusses his childhood hometown and the tradition of burning the bodies of the departed, a ritual he carried out for his son’s remains. He keeps his son’s ashes and bones in an urn, ensuring it is always close to him at all times.

Yet, the character of Eugief is unsure about where to lay his son’s remains according to tradition, and the main character offers aid to help Heismay locate a suitable burial site.

Rank Three

Heismay requests the main character to join him on numerous journeys to locate a suitable resting spot for his son’s ashes, starting at Grand Trad. However, the city’s cemetery doesn’t adhere to the same customs as those preferred by Heismay.

Afterward, they journey to a far-off forest, yet Heismay considers that the sounds of the wildlife might disrupt his son’s resting place, so they carry on with their exploration.

At last, they arrive at a sprawling field, and Heismay is struck by memories of yesteryears, recollecting his son’s delight in chasing insects amidst the towering blades of grass or plucking wildflowers to gift to his dear father.

Despite the location appearing appropriate for scattering his son’s ashes, Heismay still feels unsure and proposes that they both travel to his village at a later time together.

He guides the main character back to the village he left behind years ago, which is now their destination. Upon arrival, he encounters Tadari, the village leader, at the entrance.

Despite Heismay’s caution about a hostile response, the situation proved to be subtly antagonistic, more so than anticipated. Instead of openly expressing their disdain, the villagers communicate their hostility indirectly, making it clear that they are not fond of strangers.

In a more conversational style, we could say: Tadari gets along well with Heismay, but warns that the villagers might be wary of strangers. The village leader carries Heismay’s urn as a way to stir compassion among the residents.

Although the villagers appeared unfriendly towards Tadari’s proposition, he asserted that they were not opposed to Heismay’s son staying with them. However, this apparent acceptance was actually a ruse, as an important urn had been secretly taken from their midst.

Tadari urges Heismay to depart, aiming to prevent any more unease among the village folk, and assures him that he will locate the urn holding his son’s ashes.

During your journey aboard the Gauntlet Runner, you’ll have an opportunity to converse with Heismay and elevate his Bond level to Rank Five.

Heismay justifies his people’s actions, explaining how the village isolated itself from others. In the past, the eugiefs had friendly relations with two nearby towns.

Nevertheless, these two communities started to wage war against each other and sought the allegiance of Heismay village. Nonetheless, Heismay claims they chose to remain impartial, refraining from engaging in the dispute.

Due to their impartial position, the other two villages grew distrustful of the eugiefs, severing all connections with them and leaving them economically struggling. Fearing inaction, Heismay’s village resorted to alibis, which ultimately led Heismay to depart, seeking knighthood in Grand Trad as a result.

Similarly, Heismay acknowledges that he empathizes with his peers’ anxiety over decision-making, as he shares in their struggles. In fact, Heismay admits to feeling a sense of relief when he learned the urn containing his son’s remains was stolen, as it offered him some respite from constantly grappling with the memory of his son’s passing.

Finally, he invites the protagonist to return to the village to search for the urn.

Rank Six

Upon our revisit to Heismay’s settlement, the man muses that since the theft was swift, it’s plausible the urn has been concealed somewhere outside the community, yet remains relatively close by.

In just a short while, Heismay located his son’s urn hidden under a tree, implying that even the locals weren’t eager to dispose of it permanently.

Heismay observes that the indirect methods used to attempt his removal mirror the village’s inclination towards keeping strangers at bay. Yet, he acknowledges that such an approach is not the future he envisions for the children of Eugief.

In a different phrasing, the ex-Shadowguard plans to jolt some common sense into the villagers, though this action must be postponed for a later occasion.

Rank Seven

In order to move forward with this Rank, it is necessary that you have achieved level four or higher in the Imagination Virtue. Heismay chooses to have an open discussion with the villagers, illustrating how their fear of outsiders is limiting the growth of the village and potentially impacting the future of its children.

He contends that it’s unfair for the children to be confined within a false sense of joy, merely because the adults find it difficult to tackle the racial bias against eugenics.

In simpler terms, Tadari aligns with Heismay and assembles some residents for a discussion. Heismay admits the bias towards the eugiefs, yet insists there are virtuous individuals, pointing to the protagonist as proof.

Heismay firmly believes in our protagonist and promises to exert every possible effort to make sure our candidate illuminates the path towards a racially equitable future, where eugiefs can reside openly without dread.

Tadari thinks that Heismay’s verdict stirred the villagers emotionally, setting off a small flame, but significant transformation may take some time.

Rank Eight

During their journey on the Gauntlet Runner, Bond encounters Heismay for the last time. However, the urn containing his son is now missing, and instead, Heismay shows him a necklace crafted by Eupha using his remains.

Heismay chooses not to avert his gaze from his son’s demise anymore, and instead, wears the necklace to serve as a source of motivation to challenge the oppression faced by his people.

He expresses gratitude towards the boy and hints that he views him as almost like a son. Moreover, he reaffirms his commitment, pledging to safeguard both the protagonist and their beliefs as they strive for a more ideal world together.

Heismay’s Bond concludes with a toast to them, his son, the children, and the future.
