Metro 2033: Cursed Station Guide

Although Metro 2033 was initially launched more than a decade back, it remains a beloved title within the series and has recently gained increased attention after the unveiling of the VR-exclusive game, Metro Awakening. As the initial chapter in Artyom’s tale, Metro 2033 predominantly unfolds in Moscow’s underground tunnels. The Turgenevskaya Station, known as The Cursed Station within the game and in literature (and also its real-life name), is where players first come across anomalies. Subsequently, a challenging mission ensues, where Artyom and Khan collaborate with a band of survivors to repel constant assaults from nosalises.

The task has posed challenges for numerous participants due to unclear instructions and goals, as well as a station layout that can be perplexing at times. Following the anomaly’s destruction of the nosalis horde in the last mission, Khan moves on to the next station via a train and “Cursed” will commence once this trip concludes. Upon exiting the train, follow Khan through the tunnel and around a bend to the defenders who are near the barricaded escalators.

Where To Find The Bomb

As I chatted up the guards, they shared a grim tale: A team of demolition experts had blasted their way into a tunnel earlier, hoping to bring down the passage and stop the horde of nosalises from advancing. But now, that crew is nowhere to be found, and there was no sign of an explosion. They’ve got me, Artyom, on a mission: find that bomb and set it off. The nosalises won’t give me a moment’s peace throughout this operation. As Khan warned, if things get too hairy, I should fall back to the guards for reinforcements. It’s more than likely that at least once during my search for the bomb, I’ll have to make a mad dash back to the guard’s position.

The bomb is located at the end of the right-hand tunnel, quite a distance away. Avoid advancing past the eerie shadows as it could harm the player. After grabbing the bomb, you can either move immediately into the nearby tunnel or make your way back towards the defenders if you find yourself overrun by enemies.

How To Destroy The Tunnel

Once you’ve obtained the bomb, detonating it involves navigating into the tunnel on the left side (from the defenders’ perspective) and waiting for the sequence to unfold automatically. Artyom will position the bomb and ignite the fuse, but it’s your responsibility to flee promptly before the explosion. Remember to keep a safe distance from the blast area since staying too near would result in Artyom’s demise.

A full video guide of the mission can be found below:

Instead, consider detonating a grenade or pipe bomb in the tunnel’s vicinity, which would lead to its caving in. Remember that while the primary tunnel is gone, enemies may still find ways to infiltrate from elsewhere. So, remain vigilant and keep your firearm loaded.

How To Destroy The Airlock

After the left tunnel gets destroyed, there’s another important job to finish to ensure the safety of the station. During Khan’s initial discussion with the defenders, they mentioned a specific area that can be sealed off using an airlock to prevent more mutants from entering. To locate this place, climb the stairs on the right side of the main platform. Once you reach the upper level, you’ll notice it’s illuminated by torchlight. You may encounter some nosalises roaming around here, but it’s best to just avoid them for now.

To accomplish our goal and destroy the airlock, make your way towards the support pillars and perform an action on them. This action will result in Artyom placing a pipe bomb on the pillars that is already lit. Just as with the downstairs tunnel, it’s crucial to leave this location immediately after setting off the bomb due to its immense size. With both entrances now destroyed and caved in, follow Khan into the next part of the mission, which unfolds within a small shrine room. After a short conversation with Khan, Artyom will need to lower himself through a panel in the floor, initiating the next stage of the game’s story: “Armory.
