Metro 2033 Redux: How Does Ammo Trading Work

In the game ‘Metro 2033: Redux’, the environment is perilous and players must stock up on ammunition to stay alive. Unlike other games, obtaining ammo isn’t straightforward as it involves exchanging one type of ammo for another. With a multitude of ammo types available at traders and various trading options, this process can sometimes be a bit complex and bewildering.

In Metro 2033: Redux, powerful ammunition, particularly Military-Grade Ammo, is hard to come by. Everyone desires it, yet due to its usual location on the surface rather than in the metro tunnels where safety lies, obtaining it isn’t straightforward. Consequently, it’s become a form of currency among tunnel dwellers. This implies that players need Military-Grade Ammo not only for weapons but also to acquire other ammunition types and consumables. Additionally, it serves as a means to purchase other weapons.

How Does Ammo Trading Work in Metro 2033: Redux

In the game Metro 2033: Redux, players search for a unique form of ammunition known as Military-Grade Ammo or Rounds. Interestingly, this kind of ammo doesn’t function as regular ammo that can be fired from weapons. Instead, it serves as a currency that players can spend to acquire various items such as conventional ammo for their firearms, medical supplies like medkits, and throwing knives.

Military-grade ammunition is commonly available globally, but during the Hardcore gameplay, resources tend to be more limited. In contrast, when playing in regular mode, players can obtain military-grade ammo through various methods. Some of these methods are:

1. Picking up dropped ammo from defeated enemies or abandoned crates.
2. Purchasing it from vendors or traders within the game world.
3. Discovering hidden stashes throughout levels and maps.
4. Crafting it using resources obtained from other activities in the game.

  • Looting corpses
  • Ranger stashes
  • Safes
  • Hidden areas

Whenever I come across a fallen comrade in this game, I always make sure to take a moment to search them thoroughly. Besides the occasional regular and Military-Grade ammunition, you might just find some valuable resources like medkits and mask filters that could save my life in the heat of battle.

Scattered globally, you’ll find secret caches often referred to as “Ranger Hides.” These are usually identified by an image of a figure in a gas mask spray-painted onto a wall or other surface. Spotting this symbol indicates a Ranger Hide is concealed nearby, which typically contains a wealth of supplies, such as top-tier ammunition for military purposes.

In Metro 2033: Redux, while the world is confined, it’s richly filled with numerous hidden mysteries and mini-adventures for gamers to savor. One such adventure involves discovering keys and their corresponding safes. If a player discovers a safe or key, they can be certain that another piece of the puzzle is nearby. For instance, if players come across a red key, it’s quite possible that there’s a safe close by on the same level.

Safes also store numerous supplies, and they can prove very useful for amassing top-notch Military Ammunition. Notably, this kind of ammo is often concealed in less frequented locations. It could be hidden within a bookshelf or even secreted behind someone’s mattress. Players should meticulously inspect every hidden corner to avoid overlooking anything.

How To Buy Weapons with Ammo in Metro 2033: Redux

In a world where Military-Grade Ammunition serves as the currency, it’s essential that players seek out traders to exchange their ammo. These traders specialize in various resources, and some of them may even offer bundles containing multiple resources at once, while others focus exclusively on selling weapons or consumables.

Players can find these traders in stations, typically between major story Chapters of the game.

When a player engages with a merchant, they encounter a somewhat perplexing interface for trading. Initially, players should scrutinize the ‘Buy’ and ‘Sell’ labels located at the bottom of the screen. They will notice a figure next to each term. The display might resemble the following:

[Player’s Gold] – [Item/Service Price] | [Trader’s Gold] + [Item/Service Price]

Here, the numbers represent the cost or reward for the player and the trader respectively.

  • Buy (6)
  • Sell (1)

This implies that when a player desires to purchase a full load of shotgun ammunition, it requires them six pieces of Military-Grade ammunition. Conversely, if a player wishes to trade their Military-Grade Ammo for a full clip of shotgun ammo, the number next to ‘Sell’ shows that exchanging one complete clip will net them one unit of Military-Grade ammo.

As a player, I can either opt to purchase a weapon at its listed price, usually displayed as a number next to the weapon, or I can exchange one of my existing weapons to lower the cost of a new one. In other words, if I decide to trade in a weapon, it will reduce the price I have to pay for a fresh acquisition.

In most instances, a player will still find it necessary to spend some high-grade ammunition to make up for the rest of the cost of the newly acquired weapon. Selling an old weapon usually won’t be enough to buy a completely new one outright. The amount left to pay after selling the old weapon is clearly indicated on a sign next to the new weapon. This figure represents the amount of high-grade ammunition that players will need to purchase once their trade-in value has been subtracted from the total cost.

Players also have the option to alter the weapons they’re using. Each alteration comes with a cost, clearly displayed by a sign near the upgrade. If players find themselves short on Military-Grade Ammo, they can choose to risk selling some of their spare ammo in order to acquire more.

Generally, it’s usually okay to sell about half of a character’s ammunition for each weapon because additional ammunition often becomes available shortly after visiting a station, or sometimes even within the station itself.

In the game Metro 2033: Redux, players should aim to gather plenty of high-grade ammunition, as this will enable them to purchase the strongest firearms and ensure they always have a full supply on hand.
