As a longtime fan of the Metroid series, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the intricacies of Samus Aran’s universe. From my earliest memories of playing Metroid on the NES to more recent adventures in Metroid Dread, each game has left an indelible mark on me.

Metroid enthusiasts are known for their exceptional patience among Nintendo gamers. Unlike popular series such as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario, Metroid titles have noticeable absences between releases. Notably, there was no Metroid game available for the N64 console.

It’s disappointing to have to wait for the next installment in the Metroid series, but when one finally arrives, it’s often been worth the anticipation. With the recent announcements of Metroid Prime being remastered and the launch of Metroid Dread, as well as rumors of Metroid Prime 4 on the horizon, this could be an exciting era for the franchise. Perhaps now is the perfect time to request some remakes of both beloved and contentious earlier games in the series.

6 Super Metroid

One Half Of The Metroidvania Boom

Two initial installments of the “Metroid” series, namely “Metroid” and “Metroid 2: Return of Samus,” have been remade. Given their popularity, particularly for “Super Metroid” which is widely adored by fans and significantly influenced the Metroidvania genre with its interconnected maps, it’s reasonable to assume that Nintendo will soon approve a remake for the third game.

A 3D makeover for these classic “Metroid” games isn’t necessary, and might actually go against their original charm. The 2D versions of “Metroid” and “Metroid 2: Return of Samus” were successful as they were. It would be intriguing if Nintendo collaborated with Square Enix to apply their HD-2D technique or even assigned the project to them for remaking “Super Metroid.” They have a strong partnership, making this an enticing possibility.

5 Metroid Fusion

Before There Was Dread, There Was Fusion

As an avid gamer, I was thrilled when Metroid Prime 4 was unveiled back in 2017. However, my excitement soon turned to disappointment as Nintendo revealed a delay not too long after. So, you can imagine my shock and delight when Metroid Dread was suddenly announced in June 2021, and before I knew it, it hit the shelves in October 2021! The gap between announcements and releases is usually longer, so having a relatively quick turnaround made this experience even more enjoyable. What’s more, Metroid Dread served not only as a long-awaited new addition to the series but also as a direct continuation of Metroid Fusion, which took me back to my nostalgic gaming days on the Gameboy Advance!

In Metroid Fusion, the game introduced a virus that dramatically altered Samus’ suit into something more science fiction-like. This intriguing concept was further developed in Metroid Dread. It’s exciting to imagine a remake of Metroid Fusion with similar graphical styles as Metroid Dread. Let’s hope the vibrant colors from the original are retained to make it visually striking.

Discovering a new ability for Samus in a Metroid game brings great joy. The Morph Ball, which has been with her since the start, is one such power-up. By using it, Samus can amazingly roll up her body into a ball. Although it’s a bit unsettling to imagine, Samus seems unfazed or Nintendo conceals any potential reactions from us.

Being a longtime fan of both pinball games and the Metroid series, I can’t help but be excited about the unique blend of these two worlds in “Metroid Prime Pinball.” Having been impressed by Fuse Games’ previous work on “Mario Pinball Land” for the Game Boy Color, I had high expectations for this title.

3 Metroid Prime Hunters

A Forgotten DS Spin-off

As a longtime fan of the Metroid series, I can confidently say that there are gems hidden beyond the shine of Metroid Prime Pinball on the DS. Allow me to share my personal take on Metroid Prime Hunters, which was released afterwards and left an indelible mark on my handheld gaming experience.

Samus might visit a limited number of planets, and her experience felt closer to that of a standard first-person shooter game. This setup was less open-ended and non-linear compared to the Metroidvania genre’s characteristic exploration. However, this change came with the addition of multiplayer, which featured distinct bounty hunters each possessing unique abilities beyond Samus. The revival of this multiplayer component on a platform boasting stronger online capabilities would be an exciting prospect.

2 Metroid: Other M

A Divisive Entry Waiting To Be Reborn

The game “Metroid: Other M” sparked intense debates among fans due to its distinctive gameplay style. Supporters praised it for being more action-oriented than previous installments in the series. Notably, this production was spearheaded by Team Ninja, whose prominent work during that period included the rebooted “Ninja Gaiden” franchise.

Samus showed undeniable grace and nimbleness in her movements, impressing fans. However, they were disappointed with the storyline as it featured excessive dialogue and seemingly diminished Samus’s strength and allure as a powerful female hero. A remake might not be enough to win over critics. Nintendo could consider a complete overhaul instead.

1 Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Give It The Proper Multiplayer Treatment

In Metroid Prime: Federation Force, unlike other games in the series, Samus Aran isn’t the leading character. Instead, players get to assume the role of an unnamed soldier and pilot a mech for exploration across diverse planets. A key aspect is the four-player cooperative mode where players work together as a team.

Previously, multiplayer modes similar to this one had been implemented in games such as Metroid Prime Hunters. The cooperative aspect was an innovative idea, but it didn’t resonate with fans at the time. A remake of this concept on a more powerful platform might be more appealing to gamers and warrant greater interest.
