According to recent updates from Nintendo, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will take up a little more space on the new Switch 2 console than on the original Switch. The game will need around 29 GB of storage on the original Switch, and just a bit more on the Switch 2.
As a huge Metroid fan, I’ve been waiting for this game for almost twenty years! Metroid Prime 4: Beyond picks up the story after Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and takes us to this really cool, mysterious planet called Viewros. Apparently, it used to be home to an alien race called the Lamorn. We’ll be playing as Samus, exploring Viewros, but it looks like Sylux is still holding a grudge and causing trouble for both her and the Galactic Federation. From what I’ve seen in previews, the controls feel amazing – just as responsive as the older games – and the enemies are supposed to be really unpredictable, which should make every fight exciting!
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Will Require a Moderate Amount of Storage Space
If you’re planning to download Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on your Nintendo Switch, make sure you have enough free storage space first. The game requires about 28.9 GB on the original Switch, but the newer Switch 2 Edition needs slightly more – 31.6 GB. That’s a difference of around 2.7 GB. The extra space on the Switch 2 version is probably due to features like the option to play at 120 FPS on a 1080p screen, although the game can also run at up to 4K resolution with 60 FPS when docked.
Players of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Switch 2 will have the option to use Joy-Con 2 controllers in a mouse-like mode for more precise control of Samus. The game’s file size is substantial, though not the biggest on the system. For comparison, Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes up 7.7 GB of space, while Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment requires 43.4 GB.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will have 256 GB of storage, but players who want to download a lot of games should consider using a microSD Express card. With rumors still spreading online about the future of the Metroid Prime series, it’s unclear how well Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will sell when it’s released in December.
