Metroid Prime 4 Shows New Gameplay While Promising 120fps on Switch 2

Marketing for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is officially ramping up. Two new holiday ads have been released, showcasing Nintendo’s upcoming exclusive game. While highlighting the Switch 2’s power, the ads also give fans a first look at some new gameplay from Metroid Prime 4.

It’s been eight years since Nintendo first announced Metroid Prime 4 on June 13th. The game’s development has seen a lot of changes – it originally started with Bandai Namco before Nintendo restarted it with Retro Studios in 2019. Last September, Nintendo finally set a release date of December 4, 2025. However, despite the announcement, they haven’t launched a major marketing campaign for the game yet, which surprised some fans.

Metroid Prime 4 Showcases Boss Fights in New Ads

Starting in late October 2025, the company began increasing its marketing activity, launching two new ads for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on social media. These ads also promote the Switch 2, positioning Nintendo’s newest console as the perfect way to enhance the holiday season. The videos, which were discovered by FamiBoards user BackwardsCompat and are currently unlisted on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel, showcase two bosses from Metroid Prime 4: a massive plant-like creature and a strange, spherical alien machine.

New Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch 2 Ads

  • Power Up Your Holidays #1: Shows a sphere boss fight and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls
  • Power Up Your Holidays #2: Shows a Carvex (giant plant) boss fight

Players were surprised to see the spherical boss, as it hadn’t appeared in any promotional materials beforehand. The plant-like creature, named Carvex, is more familiar – it was first shown in the trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond during the March 2025 Nintendo Direct. Because the trailer gave a detailed look at the planet Viewros, Carvex will probably be located there, possibly at the end of the jungle area highlighted in the trailer.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be released on both the Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. Recent advertisements are unsurprisingly showcasing the game on the Switch 2, emphasizing features like improved Joy-Con controls that function like a mouse and gameplay running at a smooth 120 frames per second. The game will be among the first to utilize the Switch 2’s 120Hz display and deliver 120fps performance when played on a TV in Performance mode.
