Mewgenics Finally Has a Release Date

On February 10, 2026, Mewgenics is set to make its debut on PC through Steam. Mewgenics is the latest creation from the mind behind the popular games Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, a project that has been under development for an extended period.

Mewgenics’ adventure commenced in 2012, following Edmund McMillen’s announcement of the game after the monumental success of Super Meat Boy. Initially slated for a 2014 launch, the game graced PAX East in Boston that year with a playable demo, yet no release date was provided. Matters became more complex when McMillen unveiled his new project, The Legend of Bum-bo, in 2018, effectively postponing Mewgenics indefinitely. After several years of silence, the developer shared glimpses of Mewgenics’ combat system, and in 2024, he hinted at intriguing details about the game. Now, enthusiasts can rejoice as the wait for Mewgenics is almost over.

Mewgenics Will Finally Be Released in February 2026

Edmund McMillen announced that the roguelite game, Mewgenics, is set for release on PC via Steam on February 10, 2026. He shared a 50-minute video on his YouTube channel featuring various aspects of the game such as combat and character abilities to build excitement. According to the Mewgenics page on Steam, McMillen confirmed that the main parts of the game are now complete. The dev blog mentions additional steps like animating and scoring seven significant cutscenes, refining the game with smoother transitions, adding particle effects, SFX, and more. McMillen disclosed that a testing phase will take place in October, but it will be limited to friends and other developers only.

The game, named Mewgenics, primarily revolves around fighting and cat breeding. Initially, players are given a variety of cats, each with distinct stats and talents, who reside within their home. Leaving the safety of their abode, they engage in turn-based battles against formidable bosses. Victories yield uncommon items and mutations. The second aspect involves nurturing the genetic lineage of these feline warriors by expanding the house to accommodate more cat companions. With over 800 unique items, more than 200 enemies, and six distinct character classes boasting numerous skills to select from, Mewgenics promises a rich and diverse gaming experience.

2025 brings double delight for indie game enthusiasts, as the release date of the game Mewgenics is confirmed, coinciding with the year when fans can finally get their hands on the much-anticipated title Hollow Knight: Silksong. Despite the sequel to The Binding of Isaac not materializing yet, gamers have another exciting venture to look forward to in Mewgenics, a fresh challenge boasting similar aesthetics and humor from Edmund McMillen.
