Microsoft has announced that upcoming Halo games will also be released on PlayStation consoles. This shift to making games available on multiple platforms has sparked debate, and bringing the popular Halo franchise to PlayStation 5 is one of Microsoft’s most unexpected decisions yet.
Halo is widely considered the most recognizable series for Xbox. Since the release of Halo: Combat Evolved with the original Xbox in 2001, most fans couldn’t imagine the games ever appearing on PlayStation. But with the recent announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, that may be about to change.
Future Halo Games Will Be On PlayStation
During the Halo World Championships, Brian Jarrard, Halo Studios’ community director, announced that Halo games will now be available on PlayStation. He described this as a significant development and expressed excitement about bringing more players into the Halo universe. This move, while likely to spark debate, aligns with recent statements from Xbox president Sarah Bond, who suggested that limiting games to just one platform is an outdated practice. It appears Microsoft is planning to release more of its previously exclusive titles on other platforms.
Recently, a number of popular games that were originally only available on Xbox have been released on PlayStation 5, with Halo being the newest example. Games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Gears of War: Reloaded, and Forza Horizon 5 have all launched on PS5 and performed well, suggesting Microsoft is likely to keep releasing Xbox games on other platforms.
The release of Halo: Campaign Evolved on multiple platforms isn’t the only thing causing discussion. Jaime Griesemer, a level designer on the original Halo: Combat Evolved, has voiced concerns about the remake, claiming the developers are unnecessarily altering the original game’s design. He points to changes in the level ‘The Silent Cartographer’ as an example – the original design intentionally blocked vehicles like the Warthog from easily defeating enemies like Hunters with strategically placed rocks, but the remake removes this obstacle.
Even with some recent issues, most gamers are looking forward to playing Halo: Campaign Evolved when it releases in 2026. The game will offer several exciting updates, including crossplay, support for up to four players, three new missions that tell the story leading up to the original game, fresh voice recordings, and a wider variety of weapons. Fans are hoping the game launches successfully on the PlayStation 5, introducing the beloved Halo franchise to a whole new audience.
