As a huge gaming fan, I was so excited to hear Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella say they’re aiming to get their games available on all platforms! And it’s actually happening – for the first time ever, a Halo game, the remake of Combat Evolved called Halo: Campaign Evolved, is launching on PlayStation consoles right alongside other platforms. It’s a really big deal!
Gears of War: Reloaded recently became available on PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2025 will follow. Increasingly, games that were once exclusive to Xbox are appearing on other consoles. This trend suggests that Microsoft may be moving away from exclusive titles, potentially changing a long-held expectation for fans.
Microsoft Wants Its Games To Be Everywhere, Says CEO Satya Nadella
The competition between gaming consoles seems to be a thing of the past. So, what does this shift mean for Microsoft’s approach to gaming? According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the company’s focus is simply on making sure people can enjoy their games on any device – whether it’s a console, PC, mobile phone, through cloud gaming, or even on their TV.

Tech publication TBPN recently interviewed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about his company’s collaboration with OpenAI. During the conversation, Nadella discussed Xbox and suggested the traditional ‘console wars’ may be coming to an end. GameFile’s Stephen Totilo transcribed a portion of the interview where Nadella stated,
Satya Nadella emphasizes that PC gaming, particularly on Windows, remains the core of the gaming industry. He highlights the success of platforms like Steam built on Windows. Now, as the largest game publisher following the Activision acquisition, Microsoft aims to replicate its success with Office by releasing games on all platforms – consoles, PCs, mobile devices, and cloud gaming services, even including TVs. The goal is simple: to ensure gamers everywhere can enjoy their games.
It’s understandable that Microsoft and Xbox are moving away from making games exclusive to their platform. Some games, like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, didn’t sell well because they were only available on one console. While popular franchises like Halo have always performed strongly, expanding to other platforms could boost sales even further. However, this change, combined with weaker-than-expected sales of the Xbox Series X|S, feels a bit concerning for a company that was once a major industry leader. It’s still unknown whether their next console, potentially launching in 2027, will represent a significant departure from their current approach.
