Players can now enjoy an upgrade for free on Microsoft Flight Simulator: World Update XVII – United Kingdom & Ireland. This new feature is accessible on Xbox Series X/S, PC, Game Pass, and Cloud Gaming platforms.

In the latest MFS World Update, players will discover fresh points of interest to explore and challenging new landing spots to hone their skills. Additionally, there will be Discovery Flights and Bush Trips with improved aerial views of the entire region. This upgrade is made possible through the integration of high-definition Digital Elevation Maps for England, Scotland, and Ireland.

In addition, Microsoft Flight Simulator’s newest version is set to deliver a superior level of realism. This enhancement is achieved through a combination of up-to-date satellite imagery, digital terrain modeling with LiDAR data, triangulated irregular network surface modeling, and meticulously crafted airports for an immersive gaming experience.

Jorg Neumann, Microsoft Flight Simulator’s leader, clarified that the data from the virtual world in Microsoft Flight Simulator will be progressively expanded and enhanced for both the 2020 and 2024 editions. Instead of being two separate digital replicas, cities, POIs (points of interest), DEM (digital elevation model), and aerial imagery will be shared between these versions. The primary distinction in the 2024 version lies in how this data is optimized for players and delivered, with a significant portion being stored in the cloud to improve accessibility and performance.

The new data in the cloud enables developers to make improvements such as increasing the number of tree species from 2023 to 2123, enhancing the game’s accuracy in representing various regions. Neuman further explained that “advanced” is an appropriate description for Microsoft Flight Simulator’s latest world update. Read more about World Update XVII on their blog post here.
