Enthusiasts of Stephen King’s spine-tingling literature and Mike Flanagan’s chilling and emotive TV series and films would have undoubtedly been thrilled to hear that Flanagan will be penning and directing an adaptation of King’s novella, “The Life of Chuck.” Now, fans can preview the teaser trailer for The Life of Chuck, featuring Tom Hiddleston as Charles “Chuck” Krantz, which is being distributed by Neon.

In the short preview, it’s stated that the production comes from the creative genius of Stephen King and the emotional core of Mike Flanagan. The scene then shows Chuck, dressed in a suit, standing amidst his quaint little town, with flashing traffic lights in the background.

Though the trailer is concise without any spoken words, it leaves a lasting impression with a profound and impactful statement.

“The universe is large and it contains multitudes, but it also contains me.”

In the movie titled “The Life of Chuck “, we see an ensemble cast consisting of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. Notably, Tremblay has starred in three movies directed by Flanagan: he played the lead role Cody Morgan in the 2016 thriller “Before I Wake “, and Bradley Trevor in the 2019 adaptation of “Doctor Sleep“. Nick Offerman, famously known for his comedic role as Ron Swanson on the sitcom “Parks and Recreation“, lends his voice to the character of the Narrator, marking a departure from his usual humor. Additionally, the cast includes Kate Siegal and Hamish Linklater, who have collaborated with Flanagan in various TV productions like “Midnight Mass“. Lastly, Lauren LaVera is among the cast, recognized for her role as Sienna Shaw in the horror film “Terrifier“.

In a surprising twist from traditional storytelling, the narrative of “The Life of Chuck” unfolds in an unconventional manner. The first act delves into Chuck’s childhood years, followed by Act 2, where we witness him living his life, and surprisingly, Act 3 opens with Chuck’s passing. In Act 2, a heartwarming scene showcases Chuck dancing, which is quite unexpected in adaptations of Stephen King’s works. Hiddleston, who plays the role of Chuck, shared in an interview with Variety that he took up dancing for this role, particularly focusing on swing and jazz. He expressed that the dance number was more about expressing joy rather than mastering the technique.

Given that numerous stories by King, such as the upcoming one-setting film “Autopsy Room Four”, deviate from his usual horror themes, “The Life of Chuck” appears to be an exception. This is also true for Flanagan, who has created several chilling Netflix productions like “Midnight Mass”, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Midnight Club”, and “The Haunting of Hill House”. However, Flanagan’s fans appreciate his ability to craft compelling characters, and his horror tales are always imbued with deep emotion. Flanagan is a fan of King’s work and has adapted several stories for the big screen, including co-writing and directing “Gerald’s Game” and writing and directing “Doctor Sleep”. He is also working on an Amazon Prime Video series based on “Carrie”.

The Life of Chuck will arrive in theaters on June 6th, 2025.
