Previously, a significant number of “Hollow Knight” enthusiasts had grown increasingly doubtful about Team Cherry and the release of “Hollow Knight: Silksong”. It’s remarkable how much excitement a small glimpse of gameplay from Hollow Knight has sparked among fans, suggesting that the marketing strategy for Silksong has been somewhat chaotic and inconsistent thus far. In retrospect, it appears unusual that so many years have passed without significant updates about the game. Hollow Knight: Silksong, initially announced on February 14, 2019 (also Valentine’s Day), was simultaneously revealed for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. On this day, Team Cherry unveiled a trailer for the game, as well as a lengthy developer discussion video, on their official YouTube channel.
2019’s latter part was brimming with updates about the game “Silksong” from Team Cherry. Approximately 33 days following its initial unveiling, they shared more details about the characters in a blog post on March 19th. Then, merely 86 days later, the game made an appearance during a Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation at E3 2019, one of the last E3s ever held. At this event, there was an extensive demonstration of “Hollow Knight: Silksong”, featuring its opening cutscene and even the first boss fight. To round off the year, Team Cherry offered another development update on “Hollow Knight: Silksong” on December 13th, 2019 (183 days after E3 2019), disclosing new enemies and providing a taste of the game’s soundtrack.

Team Cherry made it clear on two occasions, in February 2022 and January 2025, that they have not scrapped the game Hollow Knight: Silksong. However, the updates provided were relatively minor.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Was Scheduled to Launch in 2023, But It Was Delayed
From late 2019, it felt like I was holding my breath waiting for updates on Hollow Knight: Silksong from Team Cherry. In the silence that followed, they only shared a few tidbits, one of which was in Edge Magazine Issue #354. It wasn’t until the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2022, several years later, that I finally got another glimpse of Silksong with its second trailer. Excitingly, Team Cherry announced that the game would not only be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, but it would also debut on Xbox Game Pass on launch day! Initially, they promised a release in the first half of 2023, but alas, it didn’t happen as planned.
Over time, there was scarcely any new information about Hollow Knight: Silksong, apart from a PlayStation port announcement in September 2022. Afterward, on May 10, 2023, a member of Team Cherry announced that the game’s release had been pushed back to an undetermined date, beyond its initial 2023 window. Since then, only minor updates have been shared about Silksong’s development until the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. Given that Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled for a 2025 launch on all platforms, fans can expect not to wait much longer for another update regarding the game.
