It’s not uncommon for games to have a few glitches at launch; even some big titles from recent years like “Assassin’s Creed Unity,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” and “Pokemon Scarlet and Violet,” along with others, became well-known for their early-stage bugs. Now, it appears that the action-adventure game, “MindsEye” by Build a Rocket Boy, has also joined this group. Within hours of its release, players of “MindsEye” started reporting numerous bugs they encountered while exploring Redrock City.
Before its release, there was much discussion about MindsEye potentially stepping in as an alternative for Grand Theft Auto 6, given the latter’s delay. However, following the launch, the main topic of conversation has shifted to the bugs that have been discovered. Players are actively posting on social media platforms about their favorite and least favorite glitches, ranging from the amusing to the unsettling.
MindsEye’s Bugs Are Varied And Unsettling
The abundance and assortment of issues encountered with the MindsEye on social media platforms reminds one of the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and other comparable games that have been plagued by glitches. On platform X, user @viktorlindn posted an image showing a pedestrian’s limbs elongating unexpectedly and their body spinning rapidly as the MindsEye protagonist Jacob Diaz passed them; this post soon garnered more than 50,000 views.
Users like @Quxvyy and @SynthPotato are labeling the game as unplayable and calling it a total technical fiasco. @SynthPotato posted a screenshot from Reddit user Odd_Revolution_1056 showing an NPC with eyes that seem to be bulging out, while @NikTekOfficial showed that even basic tasks like entering and exiting the player’s vehicle cause the game to stutter. Despite Marco Silva’s character being a tech expert in the game world, his Silva-brand drones, robots, and vehicles are failing to live up to their high expectations.
In all variations of the game, players have reported frequent stuttering, and the PC version specifically has troubles with crashes and persistent frame rate problems. Many players who purchased MindsEye have requested refunds and have cautioned others against buying or playing the game until these issues are resolved. Unfortunately, there are whispers on social media that some players’ refund requests have been turned down even though they haven’t spent much time with the game, but this hasn’t been verified yet.
MindsEye Has Quickly Received Negative Reviews
Shortly after its release, a large number of unfavorable reviews started surfacing on Steam and other platforms. At present, MindsEye holds a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam, with more than 200 of the game’s over 300 reviews giving it a negative evaluation. Players have expressed that the story and characters are somewhat enjoyable, even drawing comparisons to the Mafia or Saints Row series. However, these positive aspects appear to be overshadowed by frequent crashes, bugs, and numerous technical problems that significantly hinder one’s ability to fully appreciate the game’s narrative.
At NikTekOfficial, one of many users, raised the query as to why Build A Rocket Boy decided against postponing the release of MindsEye, despite apparent problems with the game. To support his thoughts, NikTek shared a series of video clips: one showing Jacob Diaz firing at a car, resulting in the car’s passenger appearing to vanish and reappear on the road beneath it; another depicting an NPC shooting erratically during a firefight with Diaz; and a third suggesting that a car was following Diaz, although it remained stationary.
There’s a good chance that MindsEye could bounce back from this rocky start, as CD Projekt Red, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, have been working diligently to enhance the game’s performance. Now, the game is generally well-liked. However, it remains unclear how Build a Rocket Boy will tackle the numerous glitches and problems in the game, or if they can manage to shift the public’s currently unfavorable view.
