Back in 2023, I’m super excited for “MindsEye,” a new project from the talented minds at Build A Rocket Boy studio, with IO Interactive Partners as publishers. From what we’ve seen so far, it seems to draw inspiration from iconic titles like “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Grand Theft Auto,” while carving out its unique narrative and immersive world. Given the intriguing glimpses into its storyline, I can’t wait to embark on an exhilarating adventure through a futuristic metropolis, as it tackles thought-provoking themes such as greed, artificial intelligence, and identity.
In actuality, MindsEye shares a tighter bond with GTA, given that it is helmed by the ex-president of Rockstar North, Leslie Benzies. With an impressive background stemming from his tenure at the company and in the gaming industry, Benzies’ vision for MindsEye aims to leverage his rich experience and knowledge. Additionally, MindsEye aligns with Build A Rocket Boy’s other ventures that are known for their innovative and daring approach.
MindsEye is scheduled to release on June 10, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
Everything Known and Confirmed About MindsEye, So Far
MindsEye’s Setting, Story, and Characters, Explained
MindsEye is known for its intricately woven plot, top-notch visuals, and intellectually stimulating narrative that explores the intersection of technology and ambition. Anticipation abounds among fans.
In a third-person perspective, this game is an action-adventure for solo players, set in the futuristic city of Redrock – a fictional urban landscape scorching hot like a desert, yet teeming with advanced technology. Here, robots handle daily tasks, and interconnected surveillance devices claim to make it “The Safest City on Earth.” This city serves as an ongoing testament to the potential relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Redrock stands as an experiment, showcasing the existential possibilities of human existence in a machine-dominated world.
In this game, you’ll assume the character of Jacob Diaz, a soldier who once served in special operations. Now, he’s plagued by eerie visions and fragmented recollections stemming from his MindsEye neural device. As Jacob strives to uncover the truth about his past and present predicament, he must navigate Redrock’s tense political climate and interact with two powerful and intimidating characters who represent opposing factions.
In the game MindsEye, the two main adversaries are billionaire Marco Silva and power-hungry Mayor Shiva Vega from Redrock. While Silva aims to manipulate human evolution using his wealth and clout, Vega aspires to seize control over the city’s cutting-edge technology, thereby controlling the lives of Redrock’s citizens. Players can engage in combat on foot, vehicles, or even drones within the gameplay. The developers have stated that MindsEye features a linear storyline and lasts around 15 hours. They describe the world as “faux-pen” in style, similar to that of Mafia: Definitive Edition.
Jacob will be voiced by Alex Hernandez, who fans might recognize as Mafia 3‘s Lincoln Clay.
MindsEye Will Be Part of a Bigger Project
Another captivating feature of MindsEye is its compatibility with Build A Rocket Boy’s other venture, Everywhere – an immersive platform resembling a Metaverse. In Everywhere, players can explore, generate, and share content freely. Notably, MindsEye is designed to be part of the episodic content within Everywhere, with each episode taking place in distinct time periods and regions of the universe, all tied together by an overarching storyline.
Under Leslie Benzies’ direction, the upcoming game MindsEye seems set to offer a thrilling blend of the dynamic action from Grand Theft Auto, coupled with the thought-provoking sci-fi and philosophical elements found in games such as Deus Ex. Given its expansion within an even larger gaming platform, it’s advisable to keep a close eye on MindsEye because of its potential to be an exceptionally intriguing and immersive game across various aspects.
