MindsEye’s Upcoming Mission Will Include Evidence Backing CEO’s Sabotage Claims

Mark Gerhard, CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, has acknowledged that their debut game, MindsEye, had a disastrous launch, calling it “the worst in history.” He attributes the game’s poor start to several factors and reiterates claims of corporate sabotage, promising to reveal evidence in a new update called Blacklist. While a release date for Blacklist hasn’t been announced, Gerhard stated it will include a new female character players can control.

The CEO of the game studio acknowledged that MindsEye had a disastrous launch, ranking among the worst in video game history. Many are drawing comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077, which faced intense criticism and refunds after its buggy 2020 release. While Cyberpunk 2077 eventually recovered thanks to ongoing support from its developers and is now considered a highly-regarded RPG, Build A Rocket Boy is hoping to achieve a similar turnaround after MindsEye received the lowest review scores of 2025.

MindsEye Will Share Evidence of Alleged Sabotage in New Mission

Despite negative reviews criticizing outdated concepts, flawed gameplay, a weak story, and technical problems in MindsEye, Build A Rocket Boy CEO Mark Gerhard claims the game’s poor reception is due to deliberate sabotage aimed at damaging the studio’s reputation. Gerhard recently told GamesBeat that a new mission, called Blacklist, is planned for MindsEye. This update will introduce a new female character and, according to Gerhard, reveal evidence supporting his claims of sabotage to the player community.

Gerhard has previously accused someone of deliberately trying to harm the game MindsEye. Last month, Build A Rocket Boy announced more layoffs and the CEO explained they were investigating possible criminal activity surrounding the game’s launch, working with outside experts and lawyers. Gerhard believes this investigation has uncovered strong evidence of spying and sabotage. He says the case is heading toward legal action, so they can’t release more information right now.

Gerhard recently told GamesBeat that Build A Rocket Boy has figured out who was behind the alleged sabotage. They’ve now handed the case over to law enforcement in both the UK and the US. According to the CEO, they’ll allow the authorities to handle the investigation and any potential arrests or announcements, and won’t be commenting further publicly at this time. They plan to let the legal process run its course.

Build A Rocket Boy is now the sole publisher of its game, MindsEye, after ending its publishing agreement with IOI Partners. IOI Partners announced on March 17th that they would only provide support to help Build A Rocket Boy take over as the publisher. As a result, the previously planned Hitman crossover for MindsEye has been cancelled.

After leaving his previous role, Gerhard told GamesBeat he’s looking forward to what’s next. He admitted their game had a disastrous launch, citing several reasons, but explained they’re now planning a relaunch now that external issues have been resolved. He also noted the game is receiving positive reviews and sales are steadily growing, nearly doubling each week.
