Minecraft Fans Want a Change Made to Enchanting

Although Minecraft has continually improved through numerous content updates and enhancements over the past many years, one persistent issue among players is the XP cost limit for enchanting items during gameplay. This element of the game, which has been a crucial feature since its initial 1.0 release about 14 years ago, has been expanded upon significantly over time. Many fans have expressed their desire to see this limitation removed by developers Mojang.

In Minecraft, numerous enchantments offer significant enhancements that players can acquire for their tools, weapons, and armor. Originally, imbuing an item with these improvements required an enchanting table, where players would spend different amounts of their XP points to randomly bestow a selection of enchantments onto their chosen item. However, the traditional approach to enchantment has taken a back seat for many players, as enchanted books now enable players to selectively apply specific enchantments to their gear using an anvil interface.

It can still be frustrating for Minecraft players to upgrade their items using enchanted books, especially since each item has a limited number of times it can be upgraded. This issue has been a topic of complaint among fans in recent years, with a player named Old_Razzmatazz7139 bringing it back into focus recently. Since the XP limit doesn’t stop players from adding as many enchantments as they want to an item, some players are requesting that Mojang developers eliminate this limit entirely, calling it an unnecessary and inconvenient restriction that makes the enchantment process more complicated.

How Minecraft Could Improve Its Enchantment Mechanics in a Future Update

To maximize the use of enchantments in Minecraft, players should merge their individual enchantment books into a single book that contains all desired enchantments before applying it to an item on an anvil. This approach enables players to add substantially more enchantments to an item compared to applying them one at a time, and also minimizes the experience levels they need to spend for item upgrades. Applying multiple individual enchanted books to an item in the anvil will limit the number of enchantments that can be added, as further upgrading becomes impossible once it requires more than 39 levels of XP.

Numerous Minecraft enthusiasts have voiced their suggestions for enhancing the enchantment system in the past. A common consensus among many is that the current XP cost cap within the game should be eliminated. Some propose that players should have the ability to continue upgrading an item, irrespective of the expense, as this could provide a more substantial endgame objective for players and ensure their equipment remains unbroken. Additionally, it would enable them to apply fresh enchantments from future updates to their existing gear.
