Mojang has launched the Mounts of Mayhem update for Minecraft, adding a bunch of new stuff to both the Bedrock and Java editions. Some players have already gotten a sneak peek at these features through test versions, but now the official update makes them available in the full game.
So far, 2025 has been a busy year for Minecraft! Mojang, the game’s developer, changed how they release updates, moving to a new system called “game drops.” This allows them to add new features and content more quickly. We’ve already seen three game drops this year: Spring to Life in March, Chase the Skies in June, and The Copper Age in September. Now, as the year comes to a close, Mojang has released another new game drop.
Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem Introduces the Nautilus
The newest update for Minecraft, called Mounts of Mayhem, arrived on December 9th and introduces rideable mounts! Players can now find and tame Nautilus and Zombie Nautilus, which are unique because they let you travel quickly underwater – around 5.4 blocks per second. Riding a Nautilus also gives you the ability to breathe underwater for longer. While you can attract Nautilus with pufferfish, Zombie Nautilus are often ridden by Drowned, who you’ll need to defeat first. Keep an eye out for the extremely rare Coral Zombie Nautilus, but you’ll only find it in a specific type of ocean biome.
More Zombie Mounts Are Lurking in Minecraft’s New Game Drop
In addition to the Nautilus, players can now find other undead mounts in the game. Zombie Horses appear at night in the Overworld, but you’ll need to remove their rider before you can tame them. The desert has also gotten a new addition: Camel Husks. These camels are rideable during the day, but they come with a catch – they’re ridden by a Husk and a new enemy called the Parched. The Parched can shoot arrows and, like their mount, aren’t harmed by sunlight, making them a tricky opponent.

Mounts of Mayhem Adds the Spear
Mojang recently added the Spear to the game to help players defend against monsters. This weapon is effective in close combat, but it’s especially powerful when you’re riding a mount because it deals more damage the faster you move. The developers also noted that using a Spear with an Elytra is a great combination, since the Elytra lets you reach high speeds. Plus, the Spear has a special Lunge enchantment that actually makes you move faster while attacking.
Mojang recently released a new update for Minecraft, adding several features. As this is probably the biggest update before the year ends, players are curious about what the developers will create in 2026. Considering how popular Minecraft is, we can expect even more changes that could significantly alter how the game is played.
