12am ET on April 24 saw the start of Switch 2 pre-orders at Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. However, GameStop didn’t jump in until 11am ET. Unfortunately, just like other retailers, their website encountered issues – crashing almost immediately upon the start of pre-orders. It seemed as though all Switch 2 consoles were snapped up instantly. But for those who visited their local GameStop stores early, they may have had better luck securing a console. At present, all Switch 2 pre-orders from every retailer are sold out, but there’s still a glimmer of hope. GameStop has announced intentions to weed out bot and duplicate orders.
GameStop Canceling Bot and Duplicate Switch 2 Pre-Orders
With bot and duplicate orders being canceled, GameStop is planning to restock its inventory. This opens up a possibility that some Nintendo enthusiasts may get another opportunity to pre-order the Switch 2 from GameStop between now and June 5, the console’s official release date. GameStop has also recommended that customers reach out to their local store to inquire about any potential Switch 2 pre-orders that might be available.
Regrettably, the demand for Nintendo Switch 2 has outpaced its availability. Nintendo has expressed regret for not being able to extend more purchase invitations to fans who registered with them for buying the console directly. Consequently, locating a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch and possibly even throughout the holiday season might prove challenging, given past trends.
As a fervent fan, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment if I’m unable to secure a pre-order or find a Switch 2 on launch day. The Switch 2 promises an exciting lineup, with five exclusive games at launch, including Mario Kart World, and heavyweights like Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders set for release later in the year. What’s more, the Switch 2 will be capable of running Switch 1 games with enhanced performance, as demonstrated by upcoming titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here’s hoping that Nintendo can manufacture enough Switch 2 consoles to cater to the demand, and those who missed out on pre-ordering won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on this system.
