Monarchs That Could Appear In Solo Leveling: Arise From The Shadow

Summary

  • Solo Leveling Season 2 features new Monarchs like Jinwoo, Baran, Rakan, Sillad.
  • Baran, the Monarch of White Flames, will challenge Jinwoo in the Demon Castle.
  • Sillad, Monarch of Frost, is cunning with ice powers and tricks up his sleeve.

As a die-hard fan of Solo Leveling since its inception, I have eagerly awaited every new chapter and webtoon release like a hawk watches over its prey. The anticipation and excitement are always palpable as I delve into the captivating world of Jinwoo and his extraordinary journey.

In January 2025, the anticipated second season of the popular series Solo Leveling, titled “Rising Shadows in Solo Leveling“, is set to debut. While viewers are excited for all the new developments, the topic that has everyone buzzing is undeniably: “Will we see any Monarchs in Solo Leveling Season 2?” The answer is affirmative, although the exact number of Monarchs appearing remains uncertain as of now.

In the first season, the initial 45 chapters of the webtoon were transformed into 12 anime episodes. If the second season follows suit and adapts the same number of chapters, we’ll probably encounter only two Monarchs. However, if the second season offers 26 episodes, which corresponds to the storyline up until the Japan Crisis Arc, then we could see as many as 7 out of 10 known Monarchs. Since an official announcement about the number of episodes in Season 2 has yet to be made, let’s anticipate optimistically and discuss the 7 potential Monarchs that might emerge in Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadow, listed in the order they are introduced.

7. Sung Jinwoo

The Current Monarch Of Shadows

  • Alias: Korea’s 10th S-Rank Hunter
  • First Appearance: Episode 1
  • Story Arc: D-Rank Dungeon Arc

The initial and conspicuous Monarch is none other than Sung Jinwoo, presently holding the title of Shadow’s Monarch. Upon being chosen by the system, Jinwoo views it as an appealing and practical method to enhance his combat skills, thereby boosting his hunter rank too. However, everything took a turn when he earned the moniker “Monarch of Shadows” at the conclusion of the Job Exchange arc, marking the end of the first season.

In his role as the Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo gains the capacity to revive fallen foes or allies as shadow soldiers. Over time, this special talent grows stronger, enabling him to amass an increasing number of shadow soldiers and boosting his chances of awakening powerful subjects. Yet, upon encountering another Monarch in Season 2, Jinwoo discovers that the title Shadow Monarch comes with significant responsibility.

6. Baran

Monarch Of White Flames

  • Alias: King of Demons
  • First Appearance: Chapter 85
  • Story Arc: Return to Demon Castle Arc

In Season 2, Baran will be the first Monarch that Jinwoo encounters. If the season spans just 12 episodes, then Baran would be the sole Monarch encountered by Jinwoo. To enhance his power for the sake of safeguarding his dear ones, Jinwoo takes on a formidable S-Rank dungeon known as the Demon Castle, challenging it.

According to its title, this is a complex, multi-tiered underworld labyrinth teeming with demons, each eager to rip out Jinwoo’s heart on every level. The overlord of this fiery, formidable dungeon is none other than Baran, the Monarch of White Flames. It goes without saying that this will be Jinwoo’s most challenging fight so far. Yet, the prizes for vanquishing the Demon King are exceptionally lucrative as well.

5. Rakan

Monarch Of Fangs

  • Alias: King of Beasts
  • First Appearance: Chapter 107
  • Story Arc: Jeju Island Arc

From now on, the Monarchs will make their appearance exclusively in Season 2 if it consists of 26 episodes. If not, we’ll need to be patient until they show up in Season 3. Among the initial Monarchs, Rakan is a notable one who takes an aggressive stance against humanity. While I won’t delve into the entire narrative, understand that Rakan and Sillad will engage in a lopsided battle with a top-tier hunter from the Western region.

In the role of the Fang Monarch, Rakan embodies the fierce nature of a wild beast. His shaggy, untamed hair, muscular physique, neck adorned with bone trinkets, and animal hides draped across his body give him the appearance of a primal warrior poised for battle. To make matters more intimidating, Rakan can effortlessly dismantle monsters without exerting himself. Remarkably, he rarely needs to employ his special abilities to accomplish this; instead, he relies on sheer brute strength.

4. Sillad

Monarch Of Frost

  • Alias: King of Snow Folk
  • First Appearance: Chapter 107
  • Story Arc: Jeju Island Arc

Sillad, much like Rakan, will make an appearance towards the conclusion of the Jeju Island storyline. Unlike Rakan, however, Sillad bears a resemblance to an elderly elf, with pale skin and long white hair. He wears a graceful, white robe. Despite his gentle appearance, Sillad is known for his cunning and proves to be a challenging adversary in battle.

From my perspective as an ardent observer, two factors make Sillad a formidable adversary like no other. To begin with, he’s got a knack for cunning that borders on the unscrupulous – he’ll employ any trick up his sleeve to tip the scales in his favor during a fight. Dirty tactics? He’s all about them!

3. Yogumunt

Monarch Of Transfiguration

  • Alias: King of Demonic Spectres
  • First Appearance: Chapter 111
  • Story Arc: Ahjin Guild Arc

Yogumunt, from the popular series Solo Leveling, is undeniably one of its most enigmatic monarchs. This isn’t due to any deliberate concealment of power or identity, but rather because he is not extensively depicted in the original webtoon. He seldom takes center stage in the story and when readers encounter him, it’s often during conversations with other Monarchs.

Although there’s much about him that remains unknown, what we do know is his contemptuous disposition. Among other Monarchs, Yogumunt exhibits a particularly arrogant attitude towards humans, regarding them as less important than insects. Given his status as a Monarch, he undeniably possesses the power to reinforce this unsettling perspective. Despite limited opportunities to fully display his powers in the webtoon, it’s understood that his raw strength surpasses that of an S-Rank Hunter.

2. Ashborn

The First Monarch Of Shadows

  • Alias: King of the Dead
  • First Appearance: Chapter 128
  • Story Arc: Double Dungeon Arc

The character known as Ashborn holds the title of the Original Shadow Monarch, a role significantly distinct from other Monarchs in the story. Due to its significant impact on the plot, revealing Ashborn’s true origins is best saved for later. It’s worth mentioning that despite his title, Ashborn often clashes with other Monarchs, and their disdain for each other can hardly be overstated.

Similar to Jinwoo, the reigning Monarch of Shadows, Ashborn too possesses the ability to resurrect fallen allies or foes as his shadow army. However, unlike Jinwoo, whose methods often involve stealth and quick, deadly strikes using two daggers, Ashborn is more akin to a valiant knight, wielding a long sword with pride in combat.

1. Legia

Monarch Of The Beginning

  • Alias: King of Giants
  • First Appearance: Chapter 137
  • Story Arc: Japan Crisis Arc

Among all the Monarchs, Legia stands out as an intriguing enigma rather than a straightforward figure. Visually, he is undeniably one of the most fearsome Monarchs, with his long mane, thick beard, fiery red eyes, and colossal physique that rivals a giant’s. In some respects, he resembles Rakan in terms of intimidation, but there seems to be an added layer of menace about him.

Yet, among those on this list, he is known to be quite loquacious and cunning, even by royal standards. Interestingly, when Legia first encounters Jinwoo, he immediately resorts to deception and manipulation, reminiscent of a more reprehensible character like Sillad. Furthermore, as the King of Giants, Legia possesses immense physical power. However, similar to Yogumunt, his true might is rarely displayed due to his limited presence in the webtoon.

In the series “Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadow“, there are seven Monarchs expected to appear. Three additional Monarchs will be introduced following the Japan Crisis storyline, which could potentially make their debut in either the third or fourth season of “Solo Leveling” if the second season continues for a sufficient length.
