As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the Thunderpick World Championship has truly outdone itself this year! The MongolZ, a team that was relatively unknown to many, managed to steal the show and secure the grand prize of $500,000.
Over the past week or so, the LVL Dome Arena in Berlin served as the venue for the Thunderpick World Championship. On a financially rewarding platform, 16 of the best CS2 teams from around the world gathered in Germany to compete for the $500,000 top prize. In the end, it was The MongolZ – an established Mongolian organization that has been around for ten years – who took home the trophy.
2021 has seen a variety of outcomes for MongolZ. They reached the pinnacle of success in June when they clinched first place at the YaLLa Compass event held in Abu Dhabi. This victory marked their largest cash prize win to date, and they have yet to surpass it.
Getting Prestigious
For over ten years, MongolZ has been battling it out in the Counter-Strike arena, and their latest victory has proven to be their most financially rewarding yet. With a prize of half a million dollars, the team can now boast an impressive financial boost.
With an exceptionally modest crowd in Berlin, The MongolZ put together an unbeatable record during the group stage and then smoothly advanced through the playoffs. They easily defeated Imperial, 3DMAX, and eventually Heroic in a best-of-five championship final match. Although this underestimated event might not attract a large viewership on streaming platforms, it carries significant weight for teams and their respective communities.
This victory was a significant achievement for The MongolZ, as Heroic, the clear favorite, had been expected to dominate the tournament. In the initial group stage, Heroic displayed an exceptional map record, but during the playoffs, the team remained undefeated in every round until they faced off against The MongolZ.
On social media, the team celebrated its win:
First of all, GG WP to HEROIC!
Additionally, my gratitude extends to all those who contributed to making the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 a reality.
To conclude, we deeply appreciate each one of you who joined us in Berlin. Your presence truly makes a difference and it’s incredibly meaningful for us.
Your boys did it!
This marks the second occurrence of the Thunderpick World Championship, a tournament funded and supported by its namesake betting platform. Last year’s $500,000 competition was claimed by FaZe Clan, while The MongolZ were not extended an invitation to participate in that event.
The Thunderpick World Championship will return next year.
