The popular McDonald’s Monopoly game is happening again, and this year, it’s teamed up with the mobile game *Monopoly GO* for a unique event. Players of *Monopoly GO* will receive a free item, and McDonald’s customers will have a chance to win valuable prizes.
McDonald’s and the board game *Monopoly* have a long history of successful partnerships. It began in 1987 with a promotion where customers could peel off tabs on McDonald’s packaging to reveal *Monopoly* property cards. Collecting a full color set earned a prize. The latest version of the promotion works much the same way, but now uses the McDonald’s app to redeem prizes and offers extra ways to win.
McDonald’s and Monopoly GO Come Together for the First Time
Okay, so McDonald’s brought back the Monopoly game, which is awesome! They announced it at the end of September, and it officially kicked off on October 6th. It’s the first time it’s been here in the US since 2018, which is a big deal. As a *Monopoly GO* player, I’m super excited because this is the first time our mobile game is getting involved! They’re doing it by offering some amazing prizes – like trips worth $50,000 each to places featured in the game, like Tokyo, Paris, Barcelona, and Monaco. There are six of these trips up for grabs, and it’s really cool to see the mobile game and the real-world prizes connected like this.
Beyond the chance to win prizes like the McDonald’s Monopoly grand prizes, players can also unlock special rewards within the *Monopoly GO* game. The biggest highlight is a unique shield skin designed like a classic McDonald’s fry box, complete with golden fries! You can get this ‘McDonald’s Fry Shield’ by clicking a link shared on the game and McDonald’s social media pages. Make sure to open the link on the same phone or tablet you use to play *Monopoly GO*; it will open the game and let you apply the new shield skin through the Showroom menu.
Alongside the real-world event, players can earn extra rewards in the game, like bonus dice rolls and special tokens. These in-game prizes are on top of the rewards being offered by the restaurant, which include free food, tech prizes, and a grand prize of $1 million.
