Monster Hunter Now Season 6 Preview – The Perfect Time to Jump In

The Monster Hunter series has become one of the most popular gaming franchises globally, selling over 10 million copies for each new release recently. The appeal lies in teaming up with friends to defeat colossal monsters, particularly when enhancing weapons or equipment is involved. Until 2023, Monster Hunter was only available on handhelds, consoles, and personal computers. However, the launch of Monster Hunter Now, developed by Niantic – best known for Pokémon Go – brought a new dimension to the series. By blending traditional Monster Hunter gameplay with augmented reality technology, players can now enjoy the game from anywhere.

During my conversation with the Niantic team, they shared their vision for Monster Hunter Now to be a game that lasts for ten years, an incredibly lofty goal. The team appears to be brimming with creative ideas to continually provide fresh content to players, which is typically rolled out during Seasons, happening every three months. The upcoming season for Monster Hunter Now, Season 6, has been named Scarlet Gaze in the Gloam. After getting a sneak peek at Summer Game Fest: Play Days, I believe that now is an ideal moment to embark on this mobile Monster Hunter adventure.

In the Gloam’s Scarlet Gaze, Season 6 presents fresh content geared towards long-term players. The most apparent manifestation of this is Riftborne Monsters, powerful creatures that emerge from the effects of unusual rifts in the game. If you’ve been with us since the beginning and have defeated all the available monsters, these new battles will offer a thrilling challenge. In the initial release, we have Rathian, Tobi-Kadachi, Barroth, among others, as part of the first wave of Riftborne Monsters, with more expected in the future. I had the opportunity to engage a Riftborne Monster alongside some members from the Niantic team, and trust me when I say these encounters will test even seasoned players.

Moreover, a fresh option called Style Customization has been incorporated, enabling you to enhance the attributes of weapons at Grade 8 and above. This serves as an additional upgrade, meaning those who have already reached the maximum level on their weapons can now strive for even further upgrades. By altering your weapon’s style, you can modify the behavior of each weapon category; every weapon boasts two new styles to choose from, each providing distinct actions and combinations to explore. This seems like another exciting enhancement for veteran players, adding more content to deepen the endgame experience.

In Season 6, the long-awaited addition to “Monster Hunter Now” is the Hunting Horn. Fans have been clamoring for this weapon type for months, and now it’s finally here! If you’re not familiar with the Hunting Horn, it has the unique ability to boost both you and your team by playing notes in a specific sequence. This can result in increased attack power, defense, or even a faster filling Special Gauge. After a short playtime, I must say that Niantic did an excellent job incorporating this weapon into “Monster Hunter Now”. Given its popularity in “Monster Hunter Wilds”, it’s safe to assume it will be popular here as well.

To wrap it up, let’s not forget about the excitement that comes with fresh adversaries! The latest monster added for this season is Nargacuga, accompanied by Beotodus, Bishaten, and Great Wroggi. Each new monster introduces unique armor sets to collect, ensuring you’ll be on the hunt for some stylish new equipment. It’s thrilling to observe monsters from games like Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne making their appearance, giving console players a slight edge over those new to the series. The game already hosts a diverse range of monsters, and I believe the regular introduction of new enemies every few months keeps the excitement levels high throughout the year.

All in all, my preview of Monster Hunter Now Season 6 left me utterly impressed. It’s evident that Niantic has poured tremendous passion into this update, much like they have with the entirety of Monster Hunter Now. If you’re like me and haven’t played Monster Hunter Now before, I believe Season 6 is an excellent opportunity to give the game a first-time try. Many previous seasons have been dedicated to fine-tuning and enhancing the beginner’s experience, with recent introductions such as a dummy target for testing weapons being included.

Overall, “Monster Hunter Now” offers a user-friendly experience that lets you dive in with minimal setup. You can control the game using only one hand, but don’t let its swipe and tap mechanics fool you – there’s a deeper layer of skill involved to excel in combat. No matter if you’re an old hand at the “Monster Hunter” series or a fresh recruit, this game caters to all levels of players. With “Monster Hunter Now“, you can tailor your experience to suit your comfort level.

Monster Hunter Now Season 6: Scarlet Gaze in the Gloam launches on Thursday, June 19.
