As a connoisseur of virtual cuisine who’s dined at the finest digital dining establishments, I must say that Capcom has truly outdone themselves with the culinary delights they’ve prepared for us in Monster Hunter Wilds. The cheese pull alone is enough to make any foodie swoon! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a realistic and appetizing display of digital dairy delight, not since Goofy grated that mountain of cheese in “A Goofy Movie.
In the realm of gaming, I can confidently say that my taste buds were tantalized by the scrumptious fare on display in Monster Hunter World. Each mealtime was a delightful visit to the Meowscular Chef’s kitchen. However, it seems Capcom isn’t content with Monster Hunter Wilds playing catch-up in any aspect, even when it comes to culinary delights.
During my chat with Capcom producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director/art director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda (through an interpreter), I couldn’t help but inquire about the delicious food featured in Monster Hunter Wilds. They all shared a chuckle, acknowledging that “the time invested to achieve its current quality might have been more than you’d guess.
In essence, Fujioka would clarify that they commenced creating dishes like naan and cheese quite early in the production process. He underscored the fact that it took a considerable amount of time to perfect every detail, but this time around, Capcom put more emphasis on the quality of ingredients for each meal. While previous titles such as Monster Hunter World had visually appealing food, the team behind Monster Hunter Wilds opted to make each ingredient particularly striking due to the game’s closer cooking experience, where players trade ingredients between themselves and villages/Wudwuds. And it certainly did shine.
According to Fujioka’s detailed explanation, the food portrayed in Monster Hunter Wilds is incredibly accurate. For instance, he pointed out that the naan has a crispy exterior but requires careful preparation to ensure a soft interior for the scenes depicting the meal. Furthermore, he described the cheese as if by magic, flowing smoothly, which I wholeheartedly concur with. In his own words (through a translator), Fujioka stated…
As an enthusiast, I can share that from the get-go in the production process, we were passionate about creating the naan and cheese pulling scene. It was no small feat to bring this vision to life, as it required a considerable amount of time and effort to make it look just right. We wanted to elevate the visual appeal of the food, following the luxurious culinary presentations seen in past titles like Monster Hunter World. However, our focus wasn’t merely on the overall appearance but rather on meticulously illustrating each individual ingredient used in meals.
The gameplay and culinary aspects of Monster Hunter Wilds promise a delightful experience for fans starting February, with the cheese pull being particularly noteworthy. It’s the finest cheese pull I’ve witnessed in any media since A Goofy Movie, and despite its animated origins, this cheese pull feels incredibly authentic.
