As a seasoned Monster Hunter enthusiast with countless hours spent slaying beasts and crafting gear in previous iterations of this beloved series, I can’t help but feel my heart racing at the news about the customization options for SOS Flares in Monster Hunter Wilds! The prospect of calling for help from fellow hunters or having NPC support during major hunts is a feature I’ve longed for since its absence in Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Wilds introduces fresh customization choices for SOS Flare calls, allowing players greater flexibility when summoning allies during significant hunts. This week has been quite eventful for Capcom’s latest addition to the series, as Monster Hunter Wilds was showcased at Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live event with a brand-new trailer. Furthermore, Capcom established a sizable booth at Gamescom, equipped with over 60 playable stations for fans and media to experience the game firsthand.

Over the last few days, fans have been treated to a wealth of fresh information. The trailer unveiled a brand-new location called the Scarlet Forest and introduced us to the Temnoceran monster, Lala Barina. This remarkable spider-like creature has undergone a transformation from its original fuzzy white form to resemble a red rose. This change grants it access to an entirely new arsenal of potentially lethal abilities. It’s even capable of bounding and attacking the previously revealed Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds. Furthermore, Capcom has been disclosing additional details about the game, such as modifications to the traditional SOS Flare system.

In Monster Hunter World, the SOS Flare functioned as a call for assistance, inviting other players to join your game and assist in the hunt. This feature was widely utilized by those encountering difficulties or seeking companionship during the quests. The popularity of the SOS Flare dwindled slightly in Monster Hunter Rise when it transitioned to a more conventional co-op lobby system. However, Capcom has now confirmed that the SOS Flare is making a comeback in its original form, and they’re adding new features to provide players with a more customizable experience.

How the SOS Flare is Changing in Monster Hunter Rise

According to the Monster Hunter Twitter post, gamers can now personalize their SOS Flare calls for help from other players, or receive backup from “support hunters”, who are much like the NPC companions found in Diablo 4. Moreover, users have the ability to set a limit on the number of players that can join, and opt for NPC characters to join if no real players respond within a specified timeframe.

In this newest addition to the Monster Hunter series, Capcom is introducing a significant shift in traditional elements – one such change being the removal of gender-specific armor sets in Monster Hunter Wilds. For the first time in the franchise’s 20-year history, players will have the freedom to choose and wear any armor piece regardless of their character’s gender, marking a step towards more customization options for players. Previously, certain armor and gear had distinct appearances based on whether they were for male or female characters, which garnered criticism from many within the community.
