Omega Planetes is a difficult crossover boss in Monster Hunter Wilds, particularly during the “Planetes Protocol (Savage)” hunt. Originally from Final Fantasy, thanks to the collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV, Omega is quite different from the typical monsters you encounter. It’s a large robot that constantly launches missiles and lasers! However, we’re here to help you defeat this challenging Savage boss.
Planetes Protocol (Savage) – Omega Planetes Boss | Monster Hunter Wilds Guide
Preparing for the Fight
Before the main battle begins, here’s a short checklist of things we suggest you have ready beforehand:
- Have a high Fire Resistance. Omega Planetes’ most dangerous attacks are Fire, so decent resistances can help keep you from getting killed instantly.
- Have the Wide-Range skill. Ideally, everyone in the party should have this at the highest rank possible for their build. It really helps keep everyone alive throughout the fight by sharing buffs and heals.
- Players who use weapons that rely on blocking should make sure to have Guard Up 3.
- Speaking of blocking, having at least one player with a blocking-capable weapon is highly recommended.
- If you’re playing in a premade group, designate at least one of the players to maintain Enmity. We’ll go over what this means a bit more in detail later.
- Bring weapons that deal Thunder damage. That’s Omega Planetes’ weakness.
- Grab all the free items you get at the start of the hunt. As simple as that! You’ll need them.
Now that we’ve covered the setup, let’s discuss the important game rules you should know when playing with the Savage Omega Planetes.
Enmity Mechanic
The most important thing to understand about the Omega Planetes fight is how its Enmity system works. Omega will always target the player with the highest Enmity, essentially its focus. You’ll see a notification appear on the right side of your screen when this happens.
The exact details of how the Enmity system functions are still being figured out, as the encounter is relatively new. However, it appears that Enmity is primarily granted to the player who inflicts the highest amount of damage to Omega Planetes’ front side over a specific timeframe.
Generally, the player responsible for drawing enemy attention (Enmity) should be a tank. Any player equipped with a sturdy shield and the Guard Up 3 skill can take on this role! When playing with a pre-formed group, it’s important to communicate and have players who aren’t tanks temporarily reduce their attacks until the designated tank re-establishes Enmity.
Players who aren’t marked as hostile are far less likely to be attacked by Omega Planetes. Because of this, they should concentrate their efforts on damaging Omega Planetes’ legs. Essentially, these players should be the primary damage dealers for this encounter. They should also aim to apply and explode Wounds on the legs, which will briefly stun the boss and interrupt its movement.
As the battle continues, Omega Planetes will fire inescapable dark orbs at the player who currently has its attention (Enmity). These orbs will lower the player’s maximum health, and the health reduction will persist until the player loses Enmity.
Ideally, you’d want a secondary tank to draw enemy attention (aggro) when needed. Switching between tanks can lessen the amount of health lost without endangering players who aren’t tanks.
Use the Environment and Pictomancy
When it comes to damaging Omega, the surrounding environment can be a big advantage. There are various traps available, like falling rocks and large pieces of ice. Using these to crush Omega will inflict significant damage and make the battle go by much faster.
Ideally, the player with Enmity should attempt to lead Omega into these traps. Afterwards, that player, or the other members of the group, can concentrate on triggering them.
Also, remember to use your Pictomancer spells throughout this battle! They’re great for dealing significant damage, and they can quickly eliminate the pesky, smaller enemies that Omega Planetes creates. Don’t overlook their usefulness.
Get Energy Shields
When it comes to using your surroundings, you might occasionally spot Omega Fragments lying on the ground during battle. Be sure to collect them, because they’ll unlock the special Shield Generator ammunition for your Slinger.
I’ve found that I can shoot these Shield Generators at the ground and, true to their name, they create a shield! It’s super helpful because this shield protects my whole team from a lot of Omega’s attacks, giving us a chance to either deal some damage or use items when we’re safe.
You might also encounter small, special Omegas that glow blue. Take them out before they detonate, and they’ll create an energy shield at their former location!
Finally, there’s another way to get an energy shield – sometimes Omega Planetes will give you one directly. Look for red sparks on its face. If you see them, use a Focus Strike to do a good amount of damage and create an energy shield when you hit it. These sparks usually show up right after Omega uses certain attacks, like its powerful white laser.
Don’t Ignore the Seikret
Here’s a quick and easy tip that could really save you. Always remember to summon your Seikret and ride it whenever you need to recover health. The increased speed and movement it offers can be a huge advantage in staying safe while you’re healing!
Most Dangerous Attacks and How to Avoid Them
Frost AoE
This is a particularly difficult attack to handle, largely because it’s not very noticeable. You’ll know Omega Planetes is preparing this attack when it stops moving and a white glow appears on its belly. Shortly after, it will unleash a widespread burst of frost. Getting hit by this will probably give you Frostblight, which can quickly be fatal.
The moment you see a white glow under Omega, immediately stow your weapon and escape! Luckily, the affected area isn’t very big.
Mortar and MRV Missiles
Omega often attacks with Mortar Missiles. You’ll know they’re coming when you see Omega launch missiles into the air, followed quickly by orange rings that follow you based on how much Enmity you’ve built up. To dodge these, simply move out of the rings before the missiles hit the ground.
As the battle continues, Omega Planetes will launch increasingly frequent bursts of missiles. The attack will also be identified as a MRV Missile barrage. This means the missiles could continue falling even while Omega Planetes is performing other actions! Therefore, exercise extreme caution to avoid being overwhelmed.
Mustard Bomb
When it comes to attacks, Omega Planetes is capable of launching a powerful Mustard Bomb. The bomb will follow a single player for a period, indicated by a large orange ring appearing around their feet. After a short wait, the bomb will detonate at the ring’s location, inflicting significant damage. The explosion also creates a fiery area on the ground that continues to damage any player who steps inside it.
Okay, so if I’m the one getting targeted by this attack, my main goal is just to dodge it, obviously. I also need to haul it to the edge of the arena and get away from my teammates. It’s not just about keeping them safe, but also making sure the leftover fire from the blast doesn’t end up in a super annoying spot. Seriously, nobody wants to be stuck in that!
Wave Cannon
The Wave Cannon is one of Omega’s most challenging attacks to dodge. When Omega performs this move, it spins a full 180 degrees while shooting a powerful laser beam to its side. The key to avoiding it is simply staying on the side opposite where the laser will fire.
Pay attention to this attack, because it will be either the Larboard Wave Cannon or the Starboard Wave Cannon. The name tells you which side Omega will target! Larboard indicates that Omega will fire towards its left side. Starboard means it will fire to its right.
As the battle continues, Omega will begin using a modified version of the Wave Cannon Surge attack. It functions very similarly to the original, with the key change being that it performs two spins and laser blasts in a row, instead of just one. Both of these spins and laser beams will travel in the same direction – either to the left (Larboard) or to the right (Starboard). Therefore, if you remember which side corresponds to “Larboard” and “Starboard,” you can anticipate Omega’s attacks with ease.
Rocket Punch
Omega has a difficult-to-avoid attack called Rocket Punch. It launches several large metal hands that each target a different player. The simplest way to dodge this attack is to destroy the incoming hand with a single hit, even a weak one, which will make it vanish. Slinger shots are also an effective and safe method for eliminating these hands.
Honestly, don’t get too caught up in dodging this attack. Omega Planetes almost *always* follows it up with another attack, so you really don’t get much of a break between them. It’s super important to stay focused and be ready for the next hit!
Nerscylla Clone and Delta Attack
After you get to Area 3 and inflict additional damage on Omega Planetes, it will retreat to prepare its Delta Attack. Simultaneously, it will create a Nerscylla Clone.
This part of the fight is mainly about dealing as much damage as possible – it’s a DPS race. You and your team must quickly defeat the Nerscylla Clone before Omega can fully charge and unleash its Delta Attack. Use all available damage sources, like the Cactuars around the arena as environmental traps. Just remember to balance dealing damage with staying alive!
If you don’t defeat the Nerscylla Clone quickly enough, Omega will unleash its devastating Delta Attack. This attack is an instant kill that cannot be survived with typical defenses! Essentially, your entire party will be wiped out because you didn’t deal enough damage in time…
If you can defeat the Nerscylla Clone, it will drop an energy shield. Try to get inside this shield quickly. It will keep you safe from the powerful blast of Omega’s Delta Attack.
Here’s a helpful hint: the Mog of the Ages Pictomancer spell can be a real game-changer in this situation. If everyone holds onto it until now, defeating Nerscylla Clone should be much faster.
If you can get through this stage of the battle, you’ll move on to Area 4. By now, you’ve witnessed all of Omega’s abilities. Omega’s attacks will become more unpredictable and happen more often, though they’ll still work in the same way as before. You’ll need to focus on defending yourself to withstand the attack… but don’t give up! You’re nearly there!
Here’s everything you need to overcome the very difficult Omega Planetes boss in the “Planetes Protocol (Savage)” hunt of Monster Hunter Wilds. We’re wishing you good luck as you take on this challenge!
