As a long-time fan of the Monument Valley series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the release of Monument Valley 3 on Netflix Games this December 10, 2024! Ever since the announcement five years ago that ustwo was working on the third installment, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news about its development.

On December 10, 2024, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the enchanting puzzle game series, “Monument Valley 3”, will make its debut on Netflix Games. Since the release of “Monument Valley 2” in 2017, fans have been eagerly waiting for a new installment from developers ustwo. Five years ago, ustwo confirmed that “Monument Valley 3” was under development, and judging by the sneak peeks we’ve seen, it appears that the wait has been well worth it.

Previously exclusive to mobile platforms, the initial two installments of Monument Valley were adapted for PC in 2022, featuring support for full HD and ultrawide screens. This update enabled players to immerse themselves more deeply into the stunning levels, whose distinctive visual aesthetic was influenced by artist M. C. Escher’s optical illusions, minimalist design, and Japanese prints. As designer Ken Wong put it, playing these games is akin to “exploring a toy shop while reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.” They provided a tranquil puzzle experience that swiftly amassed a devoted following.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, it was announced that the much-anticipated game, Monument Valley 3, will first appear on Netflix Games on December 10, 2024. The original game featured a princess named Ida in its intricate pastel-hued stages; while the second installment followed Ro and her daughter’s story. In Monument Valley 3, a new character called Noor will be introduced.

As a gamer, I’m excitedly anticipating the third installment of this series, knowing that it’ll delve deeper into the narrative, making me emotionally invested and bonding with my nameless character even more. From what I’ve gathered from the press release, our protagonist, Noor, is embarking on a critical mission: locating a fresh power source before the world’s light begins to wane. This journey will involve helping displaced villagers find a new home, as hinted at in some of the preview screenshots.

Despite being the third installment in an increasingly iconic series, Monument Valley 3 remains accessible for newcomers to join. This upcoming game maintains the distinctive art style and tranquil settings characteristic of the earlier Monument Valley titles, but also introduces a more immersive world-building experience with towns, cities, fields, and seas. Additionally, it showcases unique architectural influences from various parts of the globe in its new artistic designs.

Beginning on September 19th and October 29th, Netflix is set to include the first two installments of Monument Valley in its collection. The much-anticipated third game, Monument Valley 3, will follow later. An exciting aspect is that subscribers can experience all three games ad-free and without any in-app purchases on iOS and Android devices. Additionally, Netflix Games can be accessed on a variety of TV devices, such as Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Samsung Smart TVs, Nvidia Shield, Roku, or via Netflix.com using a web browser. However, these experiences are still in the testing phase at this time.
