Summary
- Moon Studios is now fully independent, maintaining control over No Rest for the Wicked.
- No Rest for the Wicked development continues with 4-player co-op updates and new music.
- Moon Studios’ focus is solely on No Rest for the Wicked, delaying any future Ori series releases.
Moon Studios, known for creating the highly praised “Ori” series, has now gained complete independence in its operations. At present, Moon Studios is engrossed in developing “No Rest for the Wicked”, an action RPG that represents a significant shift from its “Ori” game origins. This upcoming title maintains the distinctive and ambitious style characteristic of the “Ori” games, but within a different genre.
By the end of 2024, I found myself part of a change as Take-Two Interactive decided to offload its subsidiary, Private Division. This division had been instrumental in our independent publishing endeavors and brought us hits like The Outer Worlds and Hades, along with anticipated titles such as Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. Yet, despite these successes, Take-Two opted to transfer ownership of the studio to a private entity. The deal encompassed most of our independent catalog, except for Moon Studio’s latest creation, No Rest for the Wicked. At that point in time, Take-Two clarified that the game was excluded from the sale because they wanted to continue nurturing its release through early access.
Previously, Take-Two Interactive held the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked, but in a recent update video about the game, it was announced that Moon Studios has gained its independence. This change means that Moon Studios now owns all publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked, giving them full control over the franchise. The video primarily focused on the new update, “The Breach,” but provided some insight into what this shift could mean for Moon Studios in the future.
What’s Next For Moon Studio?
The progress on “No Rest for the Wicked” is moving ahead, with Moon Studios now fully managing its development. Apart from the recent addition “The Breach,” fans can anticipate further updates incorporating 4-player cooperation and new compositions by Ori’s music creator, Gareth Coker. Regarding any forthcoming games within the Ori series, no announcements have been made as of yet. However, Moon Studios has mentioned that they will be concentrating on “No Rest for the Wicked” in the interim, which suggests that fans eagerly waiting for the next chapter in the Ori tale might need to exercise patience before the next installment arrives in the series.
Moon Studio’s decision to become independent has been a gradual process, and it’s now an established fact. After the release of “No Rest for the Wicked,” the studio’s future plans are still unclear, but their dedication to the game implies that updates will continue. For the moment, fans shouldn’t anticipate news about new projects, as Moon Studios is entirely focused on delivering top-notch content with “No Rest for the Wicked.
