Christopher Larkin, the composer behind the music of Hollow Knight, will create the score for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, as announced by its publisher, 11 Bit Studios. Larkin’s new musical approach is reported to bring about a change in tone that harmonizes well with Moonlighter 2’s lighter and more vibrant environment compared to the original game.
Introduced in December 2024, the sequel to Moonlighter, titled Moonlighter 2, continues the original game’s fusion of dungeon-crawling and shopkeeping. The story now unfolds in a secluded village named Tresna where the protagonist Will resides. Improved graphics and enhanced mechanics are part of the package, along with town-building features that offer a variety of construction options for those who enjoy tinkering. Moonlighter 2 also focuses on enhancing its predecessor’s roguelike aspects to ensure multiple playthroughs result in a unique experience each time.
Christopher Larkin Confirmed as Moonlighter 2 Composer
As Moonlighter 2 prepares for its launch in October 2025, publisher 11 Bit Studios has unveiled some exciting news about the game’s original soundtrack. The talented composer Christopher Larkin, known for his work on Hollow Knight, will be responsible for the music in Moonlighter 2. Unlike his previous work that featured somber tones, this time Larkin will adopt a more diverse style to match the game’s genre blend and inject some whimsy into it. In a statement, the award-winning artist expressed that the soundtrack will be as adventurous as protagonist Will’s journey, with elements ranging from folk to electronic soundscapes to industrial metal, mirroring the mysterious and ever-changing world he navigates through.
The Spanish game development studio Digital Sun Games collaborated extensively with Larkin, whose partnership was announced in December 2024. Their joint endeavor aimed to make the music of ‘Moonlighter 2’ harmonize with its vibrant setting. The outcome of their combined efforts is described as “a cohesive, rich, and deeply immersive experience” by Victor Ribera, a Creative Co-Director at Digital Sun Games. Notably, ‘Moonlighter 2’ will be Larkin’s eighth video game project following ‘Pac-Man 256’, ‘Expand’, ‘Hacknet’, ‘Outfolded’, ‘Hollow Knight’, ‘TOHU’, and the upcoming ‘Hollow Knight: Silksong’.

Moonlighter 2 Launching in Early Access on October 23

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but be awestruck by the exhilarating soundtrack of Moonlighter 2. It’s as if it’s scoring my very own journey, echoing the thrilling unpredictability that Will encounters in his adventures. From the captivating melodies of folk tunes to the pulsating rhythms of electronic soundscapes and the powerful beats of industrial metal, the music reflects the mysterious, constantly evolving world we both traverse.
In the initial release phase, Digital Sun intends to enrich their roguelike action RPG experience by incorporating fresh environments, adversaries, bosses, non-player characters, loot, events, and personalization options. The game will additionally see enhancements in its shop system, the introduction of new quests and story elements, as well as improvements in user interface and overall quality. Many of these developments are influenced by feedback gathered from players of Moonlighter 2.
