Ubisoft appears to be working on a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, as they’ve registered a domain name for the game. This registration supports recent leaks and confirms the game is likely to be called Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
I first heard whispers about a possible Black Flag remake way back in June 2023, thanks to a report from Ethan Gach at Kotaku. But it took a while for any more concrete evidence to surface. Now, as of early 2026, it feels like everyone in the Assassin’s Creed community knows about the Black Flag remake – it’s pretty much an open secret at this point!
Possible Black Flag Remake Domain Registered, Contains Previously Leaked Name
Fans have discovered a possible website for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake. A Twitter user named TheHiddenOneAC found the domain AssassinsCreedBlackFlagResynced.com registered with a French internet service company called Gandi SAS. Currently, the site just shows a standard placeholder page, but the domain name matches a previously leaked detail – a name change for the remake that appeared in a December 2025 listing before being removed. This continues a pattern of subtle hints about the game appearing online.
Game Rant confirmed that Ubisoft regularly uses Gandi to register its web domains, including those for its various studios like Massive Entertainment, the developer of Star Wars Outlaws. Recently, Gandi also updated the ownership information for PrinceOfPersiaThesandsOfTime.com, a domain first registered in early 2022. Considering rumors suggest a January 2026 release for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake—based on Ubisoft’s financial predictions—this update seems significant. However, it’s important to note that Ubisoft’s ownership of this domain, and another called Black Flag Resynced, hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced Expected to Release After the Prince of Persia Remake
So, Ubisoft just dropped their financial report, and they’re planning to release seven games before the end of March 2026. They named six of them, but kept one a secret for now. The presentation showed that secret game coming out towards the very end of the year, after the new Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake – which, honestly, still doesn’t have a release date! That got a lot of us thinking that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced might be aiming for a late March 2026 release.
Ubisoft has been subtly updating the Steam page for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag since at least June 12, 2025, as shown by SteamDB data. These updates, which happen monthly since October, have been minor—like adding a new trailer—but are still noteworthy for a game that’s over 12 years old. This activity suggests Ubisoft anticipates increased interest in the game soon, possibly connected to recent domain registrations and financial hints.
After the release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows was moved from February to March 2025, people wondered if this would affect the release dates of future Assassin’s Creed games. Ubisoft later confirmed these concerns when they announced delays for some of their major upcoming titles. This decision came after Shadows received positive reviews and attracted a large player base—reportedly reaching 5 million players by early summer—and Ubisoft decided to prioritize quality by moving those “biggest productions” to 2026.
