More on Raven Software’s Complaint Against Activision

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed a plethora of industry dynamics unfold before my eyes – some good, some not so much. The latest development involving Raven Software and Activision is one that leaves me somewhat disheartened.

In a statement, the union at Raven Software, developers of Call of Duty, has alleged that Activision is treating union workers unfairly and not engaging in fair negotiations.

According to the allegations made in the documents submitted to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), that’s what the complaint against the company asserts.

TopMob obtained the complaint through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The complaint’s contents lay out the grounds for the accusation, offering additional details about allegations of retaliation and disciplinary actions taken against individuals.

For six months leading up to this complaint’s filing, Activision has consistently and persistently discriminated against employees in the union, primarily regarding various aspects of their employment (such as pay, hiring decisions, job assignments, promotions, and remote work arrangements). This discrimination was based on their union membership.

In simpler terms, “During negotiations, the Employer only made superficial agreements, did not negotiate sincerely regarding economic issues or other required topics like workplace discrimination and harassment, and also refused to arrange meetings at convenient times and locations for further discussions.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve sent queries to both Activision and Microsoft regarding the recent speculations. I’ll keep you posted if they decide to share their thoughts. Notably, Microsoft had previously assured Stephen Totilo in August that they would engage in good-faith negotiations.
