Mortal Kombat 1 Cutting One Series-Long Fighter May Have Sealed Their Fate

Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1 could be a bad omen for Sonya Blade’s future in the series.
  • Sonya’s absence in the game’s timeline would be a major shift for Mortal Kombat.
  • The lack of concrete indication about Sonya’s existence raises eyebrows for fans.

As a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan who has followed the series since its inception, I must admit that the absence of Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 1 is a bitter pill to swallow. She’s been a staple character for as long as I can remember, and her conspicuous absence from the game’s roster feels like a missing limb.

If current trends continue, it appears that one of Mortal Kombat’s longest-standing characters may not feature in the new series timeline. However, since Mortal Kombat 1 is still receiving updates with another DLC wave planned, there’s always a chance for this situation to change. The absence of this character would mark a significant departure, even for a game as innovative as Mortal Kombat in altering established norms. At present, the roster of Mortal Kombat 1 noticeably lacks this constant figure.

In Mortal Kombat 1, the character lineup spans the entire series, featuring familiar faces such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, along with less anticipated characters like Li Mei and Reiko. Even Geras, who debuted in Mortal Kombat 11, is part of the core roster. Furthermore, numerous alterations were made to the existing dynamics – some former villains transformed into heroes, while a few original heroes took unexpected turns towards wickedness. True to its word, Mortal Kombat 1 has reset the timeline, making the future of this rebooted universe an intriguing mystery to follow.

Sonya Blade Only Exists as a Kameo in Mortal Kombat 1

Sonya Blade is Not Playable in Mortal Kombat 1

In the lineup of fighters for Mortal Kombat 1, Sonya Blade stands out, primarily because she isn’t part of the main roster. Sonya has been a series regular since the first game, and although she’s been absent from a few previous games, her presence in Mortal Kombat 1 carries an extra condition. Characters like Khameleon and Sareena are depicted in the new timeline, but Sonya is not. Instead, she only makes appearances when selected as a guest fighter. As of now, it’s unclear if Sonya is a character within Mortal Kombat 1’s narrative continuity.

After 2 DLC Waves, Sonya is Still Missing From Mortal Kombat 1

In simpler terms, if Sonya isn’t included in the additional DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, she may not be playable in this game at all. Although there’s still a chance she could appear in Mortal Kombat 2, her absence from the first game of the new timeline is noticeable and could suggest trouble for her character. Most other important characters from the series are included in some way in Mortal Kombat 1, making Sonya’s omission an unusual exception.

To date, it hasn’t been definitively established that Sonya appears within the storyline of Mortal Kombat 1.

Sonya’s Absence Would Impact Mortal Kombat Going Forward

If Sonya doesn’t show up in Mortal Kombat 1, it suggests another significant change for the game’s storyline. Throughout the series, she has been a loyal ally of the forces of light. Although new allies like Baraka and Mileena have joined the heroes, Sonya’s absence would certainly be noticeable. Moreover, her non-appearance might raise questions about Cassie Cage’s future as well. In previous timelines, Cassie was Johnny Cage and Sonya’s daughter. Although Cassie could still be born without Sonya present, the storyline may alter her character substantially.

The appearance of Sonya Blade in the new storyline of Mortal Kombat 1 has yet to be confirmed. Her role in the Mortal Kombat universe remains uncertain, and her limited appearances outside her Kameo character might spark curiosity among fans. Although she may not hold the same level of fame as Scorpion, Sonya is still a well-known character within the Mortal Kombat franchise. If she’s absent from the game, it could signal a major shift in the timeline. Unless there are plans to address this issue, Mortal Kombat 1 might indicate an ominous future for Sonya Blade.
