Mortal Kombat and Rocket League: The Ultimate Crossover You Didn’t See Coming!

Summary

  • Mortal Kombat may soon crossover with Rocket League, expanding beyond its roots as a fighting game.
  • Leaker suggests Mortal Kombat items could come to Rocket League.
  • Possible additions like Scorpion’s hook and Sub-Zero’s ice gauntlets are in the works.

A new leak suggests that Mortal Kombat could be about to do battle in the Rocket League arena. Mortal Kombat has been at the forefront of fighting games since the early 1990s. In 2023, NetherRealm rebooted the franchise with Mortal Kombat 1 and has since been looking at expanding the franchise’s appeal outside of its fighting roots.

NetherRealm’s violent brawler is no stranger to making appearances outside its own universe. Mortal Kombat recently partnered with Fortnite to bring the iconic Sub-Zero to Epic Games’ Battle Royale title. It now seems that Warner Bros and Nether Realm could be working to explore other avenues of promoting the long-running franchise.

In a post on Twitter, the notable leaker SamLeakss claims that Mortal Kombat could be making a surprise appearance in Rocket League. The post doesn’t detail what the crossover will entail, just that it will be happening at some point soon. With Season 18 of Rocket League getting underway, it may not be long before there is an official announcement from Psyonix and Epic Games regarding any extra content. The post also confirms that items in the Mortal Kombat and Rocket League crossover could also work their way into the current season of Fortnite.

Rocket League Could Be Getting a Mortal Kombat Crossover

Since Sub-Zero’s inclusion in the Battle Royale juggernaut, there have been constant rumblings about future content for the rest of the season. A recent Fortnite x Mortal Kombat leak suggests that Scorpion’s hook and Sub-Zero’s ice gauntlets could be added as midseason updates. It’s unclear if these will tie into the Rocket League rumors, so it is worth taking these updates with a pinch of salt, at least for the time being.

This isn’t the only rumor circulating about the popular free-to-play titles. It recently emerged that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be returning to Fortnite and Rocket League with new cosmetics. According to the information available, the TMNT Party Wagon could be added as a playable vehicle across both titles. The Party Wagon is said to have been created by Epic Games and will include a red edit style with special ooze cosmetics.

Mortal Kombat isn’t exactly known for its wide range of vehicles, so players can only speculate how the collaboration with Rocket League will play out. That’s not to say a team-up is out of the question. Other unlikely franchises have appeared in Rocket League over the years so anything is possible. For now, players can enjoy Season 18 of Rocket League, which is currently underway across all available platforms.
