I’m deeply saddened to hear about the recent mass layoffs at NetherRealm Studios, specifically the entire mobile team. After following their work and being a huge fan of Mortal Kombat for over a decade, it’s disheartening to see such talented individuals being let go.
In simple terms, the Mortal Kombat development team at NetherRealm Studios faced significant downsizing, resulting in the termination of their entire mobile division.
Initially reported on ResetEra, team members started sharing on LinkedIn that they had been terminated from their jobs.
As a devoted fan, I sadly greet you all, dear internet community. Sadly, I must share some disappointing news from the gaming world: yesterday, NetherRealm’s mobile team was shut down by the company. This team, filled with an immense amount of incredibly skilled individuals, has unfortunately been let go.
“I regretfully share the news that I’ve been let go from NetherRealm Studios after close to a decade of employment,” expressed animator Elizabeth Ramirez.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that over 50 individuals have recently lost their jobs in the gaming industry. Adding to this sad statistic, it brings the total number of people who have been let go this year to approximately 11,000.
