- Jotaro’s iconic lines and demeanor show his fearless, badass personality.
As a longtime fan of the JoJo series, I must say that Jotaro Kujo’s quotes and catchphrases are some of my favorite aspects of the franchise. Growing up with these characters has been like growing up with friends, and it’s always a joy to revisit their adventures.
Among the Jojos, Jotaro often comes across as the more serious and quiet one. Yet, this trait merely hints at the fact that when he does speak up, it’s typically with words of motivation, provocation for thought, or humor, which are just a few reasons why fans adore his character so deeply.
Jotaro has said many quotes that feed into his badass persona, but at the same time, there have also been several lines that give subtle hints to who the man is beneath the cold exterior. Every JoJo’s fan will have their favorite quotes from the series’ protagonists, but when it comes to Jotaro specifically, these are the bits of dialogue that have become considered iconic over the years.
8. “What You Owe Me Can Never Be Paid Back With Money”
Jotaro’s Morality Shines Through During His Fight With Steely Dan
- Stardust Crusaders Episode 17
During an intense fight against Steely Dan, Jotaro delivers a decisive line after Dio’s minion attempts to overpower him by invading his body with the special ability of The Lovers. Eventually, Jotaro gains control and offers a sharp piece of advice before raining down a flurry of punches from Star Platinum.
Jotaro may seem like a pretty cold-hearted guy, but he still has a solid sense of morality, as shown when he refuses to take Dan’s money in order to let him off the hook. To save his own mother from certain death, Jotaro must battle with numerous tough opponents before eventually reaching Dio, which is all achieved through his own perseverance and self-sacrifice. Therefore, it’s a line that reminds viewers of Jotaro’s humanity that only rarely shines through.
7. “When A Life Is Taken, It Can Never Come Back. No Matter The Stand, It Can’t Bring It Back”
The Loss Of His Friends Pushed Jotaro To Value Life More Than Ever
- Diamond Is Unbreakable Episode 2
This statement might seem a tad ironic given that there are Stand users beyond Part 4 who can alter life in various ways. However, it powerfully illustrates Jotaro’s mindset shift following the Dio encounter in Stardust Crusaders. Jotaro, being the bearer of Star Platinum, understands the might of these abilities, yet during his journey, never fathomed that Stand users could cheat death, a concept he now grapples with.
During his mission in part 3, Jotaro tragically lost two dearly valued companions. This loss seems to have instilled in him an appreciation for life, something he now holds dear while it lasts. Moreover, one of the rare occasions when Jotaro speaks with a solemn and composed voice is during these moments, demonstrating the profound effect these deaths had on him.
6. “I Came To Egypt To Save My Mother, So If I Wager Her Soul, She Won’t Complain”
An Absurd Line That Sums Up Jotaro’s Complex Relationship With His Mother
- Stardust Crusaders Episode 35
Jotaro’s connection with his mom is quite intricate, to say the least. On the surface, he frequently ridicules and grows impatient with her affections for him. Yet beneath this rough exterior lies a strong affection for her that drives him deep. This sentiment becomes particularly evident during his duel against D’arby, where he risks his own mother’s soul to pressure his opponent into disclosing details about Dio’s Stand. This intricate bond between them is accentuated in this decisive moment.
In a risky move indeed, but one that surprisingly paid off since D’arby was compelled to free all the souls he had amassed, assuming he wouldn’t win the game given such high stakes. Yet, it’s a bizarre turn of events that only a character from such an eccentric series could pull off so nonchalantly.
5. “I Can’t Beat The S*** Out Of You Without Getting Closer”
Jotaro’s Unflinching Reaction To Dio Demonstrates Just How Fearless He Is
- Stardust Crusaders Episode 46
Among the unforgettable moments in the annals of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, none quite stand out like the stand-off between Jotaro and Dio – a battle etched deeply into our collective memory. As Dio coolly asks, “So you’re coming for me?”, it’s a line that no true fan could ever forget. Yet, it’s Jotaro’s raw, badass retort that truly steals the show, leaving an indelible impression on all who hear it.
Reflecting on the long-awaited encounter between these two characters, their cold exchange carries significant weight. Jotaro’s carefully chosen words were effective in provoking Dio, yet they also underscore his bravery, standing firm against such a formidable adversary as Dio.
4. “That’s A Nice Watch. But I’ll Break It So You Can Never See The Time On It Again”
Jotaro’s Unique Way Of Saying To Kira That He’s About To Pummel Him With Star Platinum
- Diamond Is Unbreakable Episode 24
In a casual and understandable manner: Jotaro has an unusual method of hinting that he’s going to give someone a good thrashing, as demonstrated when he speaks to Kira in part 4. Before launching into the actual threat, Jotaro first offers a compliment about Kira’s watch. This seemingly friendly comment is quickly followed by a warning that makes Kira uneasy, suggesting that the individual praising his timepiece might not be as genuine as he appears.
This quote highlights for viewers the unpredictable nature of the conversations in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, regularly outdoing assumptions to produce some of the most hilarious dialogue found in any anime. Though those new to JoJo’s might initially interpret this statement as a sincere praise, it is only the dedicated fans who truly understand its underlying meaning.
3. “My Stand Will Be The Judge”
Jotaro May Not Be A Law Abiding Citizen, But He’s Not Above Taking The Law Into His Own Hands
- Stardust Crusaders Episode 3
In the early stages of Stardust Crusaders, during Jotaro’s intense battle with Kakyoin, this significant line appears in his monologue. Throughout his speech, he acknowledges the label of being a “rebel” due to his frequent defiance of laws. However, by the end of his discourse, he underscores that it is his unique stand, Star Platinum, which has the authority to evaluate others who violate the established norms.
Here, he’s talking about Kakyoin’s unique Stand, Hierophant Green, which manipulates humans instead of being held responsible for its actions because it controls them. Luckily, Jotaro stepped in, using his own method of justice – a good old-fashioned beatdown to shake some awareness into Kakyoin and free him from Dio’s control.
2. “ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA”
Jotaro’s Iconic Chant That Rings Off Whenever Star Platinum Is Let Loose
- Stardust Crusaders Episode 3
In their quest to defeat Dio, Jotaro and his companions face numerous distinctive adversaries. However, more often than not, these foes meet the same demise – being fragmented by repeated uses of Jotaro’s Star Platinum ability. Typically, after discussing the villain’s errors, Jotaro chooses to bring an end to a battle dramatically, unleashing his Stand at full force while repeatedly shouting “ORA” for added intensity.
Whenever Jotaro utters his famous “Ora”, viewers know they’re about to witness an exhilarating pummeling of the adversary with extreme violence, and this statement becomes more impactful when Jotaro exclaims it after a long break from combat, like the instances where he shouts it forcefully during part 4.
1. “Yare Yare Daze”
A Catchphrase Highlighting Jotaro’s Disinterested And Reserved Personality
In English, the phrase “Good grief” is often used to express frustration or exasperation. This line is frequently used by the character Jotaro throughout his mission against Dio in Part 3 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Since it appears so frequently, it essentially becomes Jotaro’s signature exclamation.
As Jotaro grows stronger and strengthens his bond with Star Platinum, he adopts this saying to taunt his numerous adversaries during his global travels. This phrase, which he often uses to ridicule their weaknesses, has come to symbolize Jotaro’s nonchalant yet strategic demeanor, making it a signature aspect of his character.
