The latest season of Jujutsu Kaisen started out very unpredictably, with the introduction of the Culling Game leaving fans unsure of what would happen next. However, as the season has progressed, the story has become much clearer. We now have a good understanding of what the Culling Game is, why it’s happening, and the need to end it.
In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Episode 7, Itadori and Megumi finally went inside one of the colonies, suggesting a significant event is about to happen. Here’s a look at the characters who are expected to play the most important roles in the upcoming episodes.
Hajime Kashimo
The latest episode of Season 3 introduced Hajime Kashimo, a powerful new player. He’s already eliminated 40 opponents, earning 200 points. Kashimo then used half of those points to change the rules of the game, now letting players access information about each other. This makes him a serious threat that Itadori and the others need to watch out for.

What makes Kashimo truly stand out is that he used to be a sorcerer in a past life. He believes all his current opponents are too easy, stating that battles were much more challenging 400 years ago. His search for Sukuna implies he has a connection to the King of Curses and will likely encounter Itadori and Sukuna at some point.
Hiromi Higuruma
I’m so excited about what’s happening in the story! Itadori and Megumi have set their sights on Higuruma – he’s the only one besides Kashimo with over 100 points, which makes him a huge asset. They’re hoping to get him on their side because his points could let them add rules to the game, rules that could actually save people. Remember in Season 3, Episode 7, they talked about getting Megumi’s sister, Tsumiki, out of the Culling Game safely? Well, they’re realizing Higuruma’s points are key to making that happen!
Given that Higuruma has already killed at least twenty people, it’s unlikely he’s interested in finding a peaceful solution. What Higuruma decides to do next will heavily influence where the story goes.
Maki Zen’in
Maki has been an important character in Jujutsu Kaisen since the beginning. While she used to mainly assist others, the new season shows her stepping into her own power. She attempted to reclaim cursed weapons from her family’s vault, but initially lost to her father. However, Mai’s selfless act brought Maki back stronger than ever, granting her incredible power and a legendary weapon.
She decisively defeated the Zen’in family in one episode and is now entering the Culling Game. With her Dragon-Bone and Split Soul Katana, she’s expected to be a major force in future battles.
Kinji Hakari
Inside the Tombs of the Star, Okkotsu and Maki stressed how crucial it was to get Kinji Hakari on their side. Hakari was reluctant at first, but Itadori’s persistence convinced him to join the Culling Game and help Itadori and others. While his full capabilities remain a mystery, he demonstrated impressive power when fighting Itadori, leading Okkotsu to believe Hakari might even be stronger than him.
Yuta Okkotsu
Yuta is a key character whose return initially worried fans, as he pretended to target Itadori. However, it was a ruse – he’s actually working with Itadori and the others to defeat Kenjaku. Meanwhile, as we saw in Season 3, Episode 3, Okkotsu has already entered the Culling Game to scout ahead of Tsumiki and the others, preparing for when they join a colony. He’s currently operating independently, but he’ll likely team up with others again soon.
As one of just a few incredibly powerful sorcerers, Yuta is expected to be crucial in how things play out in the current storyline. Right now, he’s the most powerful member of Itadori’s team.
Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi, like many others, is working to stop Kenjaku from carrying out his dangerous plans that could destroy the jujutsu world. This current situation is particularly important to him because he’s also focused on saving his sister, Tsumiki, from the deadly Culling Game. He’s already made a significant contribution by getting Hakari on their side, and now he and Itadori have entered a new territory.
After the latest episode, Itadori and Megumi are each searching for Higuruma, but one of them has likely been tricked. This means Megumi could be in serious danger and forced to fight for his survival.

Yuji Itadori
It’s not surprising that the anime’s main character is currently so popular. He quickly proved his strength by defeating Hanyu and Haba after entering the Culling Game. However, like Megumi, he could be heading into a dangerous trap as he searches for Higuruma. Also, because he’s Sukuna’s host, powerful, reincarnated sorcerers such as Hajime Kashimo might target him.
Hana Kurusu
One of the main objectives for Itadori and his friends in the Culling Game is locating a powerful sorcerer known as Angel. As revealed in Season 3, Episode 3, Angel is a thousand-year-old with the unique ability to nullify other cursed techniques. This power will allow her to unlock the Prison Realm and release Satoru Gojo.
The anime shows Angel’s name to the audience, but the characters themselves don’t know it yet. Locating her is the key to moving forward in the current storyline.
Kenjaku
The main villain, who created the Culling Game, is central to the current storyline. He’s the one who trapped Satoru Gojo and will do anything to achieve his goals. Currently, he’s using the Culling Game to try and merge the Japanese population with Master Tengen, believing this will lead to the next step in human evolution.
Kenjaku is responsible for bringing back powerful sorcerers from the past through agreements he made with them. If Itadori and his allies manage to end the Culling Game, Kenjaku will almost certainly intervene to prevent it. His ties to Sukuna further establish him as a persistent and dangerous enemy.
Satoru Gojo
Gojo is widely considered the most powerful sorcerer in the anime, and remains incredibly important even while sealed away. Although he’s not expected to reappear directly on screen for a while, the story will center around the heroes’ attempts to revive him. Knowing his disappearance was coming, Gojo entrusted Itadori and others to Yuta’s protection. When he eventually returns, he’ll once again lead the fight against threats like Kenjaku and Sukuna.
Jujutsu Kaisen is getting increasingly intense, with both new faces and threats that could destroy the world. The big question is: can Itadori and his friends bring an end to the deadly Culling Game?
