While ARC Raiders is advertised as a shooter focused on fighting robots with some player-versus-player elements, it’s almost unavoidable to end up in fights with other players. The player-versus-player combat is more complex than it seems; it’s not just about aiming accurately. Players need to learn various strategies and techniques to succeed in those close-quarters battles.
Skilled players generally rely on a few key areas to improve their game: how they move, their shooting skills, and how they use items. Within each of these areas, there are specific tactics that can help players win fights or survive even when they’re critically injured. Some of these tactics are simple adjustments you can make in any battle, while others require a more significant change to how you approach and play the game.
Using Slides/Rolls
A Moving Target Is Hard To Hit
Details:
- Adding slides and jumps during gunfights
- Chaining together movement
Beyond just aiming and shooting, skillful movement is key to competing at the highest levels. Players can use various tools and techniques, both separately and combined, to gain an advantage, particularly in close-quarters battles. Mastering slides and rolls is especially important, as these maneuvers allow for quick repositioning, aggressive attacks, and outsmarting opponents with pure speed and agility.
Players can use slides and rolls during gunfights to maintain a consistent rate of fire and keep the battle moving. For example, they can slide into a firefight, quickly roll to cover, and avoid incoming damage while still dealing their own. Rolling between shots is also effective, especially with weapons like the Il Toro. This allows players to fire, roll to evade enemy fire, and be ready to shoot again as soon as the roll ends. They can even link multiple rolls or slides together to adapt to the situation.
Playing Aggressive
One Shield Crack And It’s Time To Go

- Using damage advantages
- Not giving players a chance to heal
Battles in ARC Raiders can happen very quickly. You might be peacefully gathering supplies one moment, and fighting for survival against another player the next. When a fight breaks out, it’s crucial to know when to be cautious and when to attack. Being aggressive isn’t easy for everyone, but with practice, you’ll start to recognize good opportunities to strike.
The best time to attack is when your opponents are clearly weakened. Listen for cues like a teammate breaking an enemy shield or a grenade hitting a group – that’s your signal to push forward and finish them off. Don’t just deal some damage and then wait; be aggressive and capitalize on that initial burst to secure the kill and grab valuable loot you might otherwise miss.
Multitasking
Healing On The Move
Details:
- Healing while sliding
- Swapping weapons mid-rolls
In ARC Raiders, skillful players can combine quick movements and items for a significant advantage. For example, sliding while using items like bandages lets you heal and quickly escape danger. This same technique works with items like adrenaline shots, boosting your speed and agility simply by sliding during use.
A key skill for players to master is quickly switching weapons during combat. Raids often involve running out of ammo or experiencing delays after firing certain guns, like the Ferro. Switching weapons maximizes damage output in player-versus-player situations. It also makes players harder to hit, as moving while switching is better than standing still, and keeps opponents guessing – they might be facing a rifle one moment and a shotgun the next.
Utility
Grenades Are Your Best Friend
Details:
- Using any and all pieces of utility
- Even basic nades can deal significant damage
Okay, so in Raider, everyone focuses on gunplay, and honestly, getting those shots in is usually what keeps you alive. But I’ve realized grenades are seriously underrated! Even the weaker ones can really hurt someone with just a quick toss. Seriously, everyone should be using them – they make a huge difference with so little effort.
As a player, I’ve learned that grenades and equipment are total game-changers in a fight! Seriously, a well-timed incendiary can wipe out a whole team, and a shock grenade can shut down any escape attempt – and you don’t even need fancy gear to do it. Whenever I find a few extra grenades during a match, I always try to use them. A lot of players just aren’t expecting them, which makes them super effective and deadly. It’s a simple way to really turn the tide of a battle!
Taking Smart Fights
Don’t Go Shooting Anything That Moves
Image via Embark Studios Details:
- Finding the right timing to engage
- Use sound to gauge locations/directions
Topside is a fast-paced and chaotic place where players quickly jump into action. Some rush to popular areas for loot, while others prefer to wait for the initial frenzy to subside before attacking. However, everyone is ultimately focused on the same thing: deciding when to fight and choosing battles they have a good chance of winning.
Okay, so when I’m thinking about taking someone on, I always quickly scan the area. I’m looking for cover – what’s around for me, and what’s around for them. High ground is a huge deal too, it can totally change a fight. But it’s not just about the layout. I try to be patient and watch what the other player is doing, either from a distance or by listening for their movements. If I can predict where they’re going, I can set up an ambush. Honestly, surprising someone is often the key to winning. It’s so much harder to fight back when you’re already low on health and you don’t even know where the attack came from – especially if grenades are involved! Getting the jump on them can be all it takes.
