Spoiler Warning For Summer 2025’s Isekai Anime
Anime seasons frequently feature protagonists from the isekai genre who possess extraordinary powers and can seemingly conquer anything, from armies to kingdoms, even gods. However, it’s important to note that not every isekai main character (MC) displays such overpowering abilities. Shows like the currently airing “Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra”, which focus on strategy instead, are relatively rare exceptions. While the Summer 2025 season doesn’t have a large number of isekai series, the majority still boast powerful main leads.
These anime, despite facing criticism, are genuinely entertaining when you’re seeking a power-fantasy fix. They’re predictable but reliable, offering a sense of familiarity. Though they often revolve around powerful characters, these shows can still vary significantly, with some focusing on action and others prioritizing humor. So, let’s find out who among the main characters of the upcoming isekai anime in Summer 2025, within the genre of OP anime, demonstrates the greatest strength.
A few notes and criteria:
- Lord of Mysteries has been left out due to being a donghua rather than an anime. Also, Klein’s abilities are so unique, it is difficult to compare them to characters from other universes. Just to be clear, Lord of Mysteries is fantastic and well worth a watch.
- A protagonist’s strength will be viewed relative to their show’s context. Therefore, they have to be OP compared to other characters from their universe.
- Only isekai, no reincarnation anime like I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability Season 2.
- At this point, each anime has released 9 or 10 episodes, which should be enough to get a clear picture of a character’s strength. That said, there is always a chance that a protagonist might receive a massive power boost in the final few episodes.
5. Boxxo (Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Season 2)
The Ultimate Vending Machine
Absolutely, there’s an anime titled “Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Traverse the Labyrinth” that features a protagonist who transforms into a vending machine. And yes, despite the unusual premise, this show exceeds expectations remarkably. In its second season now, it combines humor and adventure with a bit of action. Occasionally, our main character, Boxxo, gets to showcase his skills.
As a sentient transforming machine dubbed Boxxo, this character exhibits remarkable adaptability. He can morph into various devices such as ice cream dispensers or colossal structures, capable of overpowering formidable adversaries. Despite some energy constraints, Boxxo boasts an array of defensive capabilities. Among them is a shield that safeguards him and his team from moderately intense attacks.
Currently, Boxxo relies heavily on Lammis, a robust girl who shoulders a vending machine. He operates more as part of a collaborative unit rather than an individual force of nature. The MC’s key strength lies in his capacity to stockpile food and drinks, thus empowering him to aid and even rescue numerous starving companions.
4. Takeru (Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse)
An Isekai MC With A Strange Power
David Production’s original series, Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse, can be quite confusing and aggravating. While it belongs to the isekai genre, it also incorporates elements of sentai transformations, mecha, kaiju, diverse realms, numerous iterations of similar characters, and an assortment of concepts that contribute to a complex narrative structure.
Essentially, this article centers around Takeru, a protagonist reminiscent of delinquents from 2000s shonen manga. His speech often follows common phrases and his primary motivation revolves around safeguarding Tsukimiya, who he regards as the ideal woman in dreams. One ordinary day takes an unexpected turn when Takeru finds himself in Denji Heian-kyou, a city fusing elements of the future and past. Before he knows it, he’s drawn into a conflict between a peculiar mech and a beast, resulting in his death. However, he mysteriously returns to life at the same starting point, indicating that he may be trapped in a time loop.
The major surprise in Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse lies in Takeru’s unique power that doesn’t reset time upon his death, instead transporting him to an alternate world. However, each universe he enters is destined for destruction because he’s failed to save them. His abilities seem scattered and unpredictable, even giving him the capacity to transform into a sentai warrior at times. Despite being quite powerful, Takeru often finds himself at a disadvantage in fights, sometimes even losing.
3. Naofumi Iwatani (The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4)
An OP Isekai Anime MC Who Leans On His Party
Ah, The Rising of the Shield Hero, one of the most divisive isekai anime ever made. While it might not have received as much acclaim as its earlier counterparts, season 4 has been generally good so far. The main characters, led by Naofumi, find themselves in Siltvelt, a city that venerates the Shield Hero. By now, the MC’s strengths and limitations are clear, and he doesn’t necessarily need to display his skills weekly. In fact, during the first half of season 4, he scarcely used his shield, choosing instead to take a supporting role to let characters like Fohl take center stage.
Offensively speaking, Naofumi lacks prowess, but defensively he’s unquestionably formidable, able to withstand attacks from high-tier foes without much trouble. However, it’s his companions, such as Raphtalia and Sadeena, who typically take charge of the offensive front. Intriguingly, Raphtalia is even higher in level than Naofumi, but he, being a legendary hero, possesses more potent abilities.
2. Ryou (The Water Magician)
An Eternally Powerful Isekai MC Mage
Following an untimely conclusion, Ryou ventures into the afterlife and encounters an angel who provides him with a second chance and the ability to manipulate water. Although it may not seem spectacular initially, it soon becomes evident that Ryou’s power surpasses that of nearly every other magician in his universe. Not only does he boast a remarkably high base level, but after years of solitary training within the forest, his mana reserves expand significantly, and he perfects his magic to the extent where he can cast spells without uttering an incantation. This unique skill is unparalleled in his new world.
Ryou possesses an impressive arsenal of spells, encompassing both defensive and offensive magic, primarily focusing on water and ice. Despite this constraint, he demonstrates a considerable amount of adaptability. Notably, he is a scholar with a thirst for knowledge, always on the lookout for books that could shed light on the intricacies of this world and its energy dynamics. Generally, Ryou seems indifferent to combat situations, but he proves himself to be quite skilled in weaponry fights, particularly when equipped with the Fairy King’s Robes and Sword. Impressively, he dispatched a Demon Prince who had previously overpowered one of the mightiest human heroes in this universe. Furthermore, Ryou manages to stand his ground against Leonore, an immensely powerful Akuma.
1. Yoshioka Shigeru (Uglymug, Epicfighter)
Almighty God
In the summer of 2025, Yoshioka Shigeru stands out as the most overpowered protagonist in any isekai anime, leaving no competition. With his life falling apart, he encounters a device for transferring to another world, where he can customize his attributes. Driven by self-loathing and rage, he decides to sacrifice his looks for power, resulting in a reincarnation as an “Uglymug” boasting the might of a deity. To clarify, this assessment of his strength is not my own, as the anime itself refers to Yoshioka as an “Almighty God.
Initially, Yoshioka needs to vanquish one goblin to advance and earn extra points. Once he does, he boosts every stat exponentially, rendering him nearly invincible. He possesses powerful abilities, such as a move capable of obliterating anything within a 200-kilometer range. Merely releasing an arrow conjures a dragon. Granted, Yoshioka carries certain weaknesses, like the inability to touch a woman without discomfort; but these flaws are specific and can be circumvented with careful planning.
The character introduced by Uglymug, Epicfighter, known as an Almighty God, now has a counterpart for Yoshioka. However, Yoshioka’s overpowering (OP) attributes must remain hidden from most of his party members, so he can’t freely display his full power whenever desired.
