Most Underrated Powers In The Boys

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys

In this captivating tale of superhumans, I find myself utterly enamored by Sister Sage, a character whose intelligence outshines even the brightest of stars. Her intellect is not just a tool, but a weapon that has the power to shape destinies and reshape worlds.

Drawing inspiration from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s gritty comic book series, Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” presents a unique lineup of superheroes that are among the most powerful ever depicted on television screens. These extraordinary characters showcase an impressive range of skills, including telepathy, energy control, and even the ability to fly.

Many less recognized characters exhibit extraordinary powers that often go unnoticed amidst those with more flashy abilities. While they may not be joining the prestigious Seven, several superheroes encountered by Billy Butcher’s squad possess a variety of Compound V-enhanced skills that are surprisingly undervalued in terms of their practical use.

7 Mindstorm

Telepathy

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys

  • First appears in: Season 3, Episode 7: “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed”

In his prime, Mindstorm was remarkably potent, a fact that’s challenging to fully emphasize. As part of Vought’s prestigious superhero team, Payback, Ryan Blakely’s character boasted telepathic skills strong enough to control even Soldier Boy, who used to be considered the most powerful superhero on Earth.

Although Soldier Boy’s overwhelming might, comparable to an enraged gorilla squashing a tin can with his fist, is frequently underestimated, Mindstorm remained formidable despite his mental decline. In his weakened state, he managed to overpower Billy Butcher just by gazing into his eyes, rendering him unconscious and trapping him in a perpetual coma. Fortunately for Butcher, Hughie Campbell intervened, preventing him from experiencing his darkest fears continuously throughout his life.

6 Gecko

Limb Regeneration

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 2, Episode 1: “The Big Ride”

Gecko is often viewed as one of the least powerful supers among “The Boys,” yet it’s challenging to deny that his power makes him virtually invulnerable to harm. Leveraging his abilities in an unconventional way, this ex-Capes for Christ member has found a secondary income as a sadomasochistic sex worker. Remarkably, he can regenerate any body part that gets severed from him.

Annie’s childhood friend seems utterly immune to pain; Gecko can watch a customer brutally hack off his arm with a machete without showing much reaction. It may not seem like Matthew Culbert’s ward is particularly tough, but it doesn’t make him any less resistant to harm.

5 Termite

Size Manipulation

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 3, Episode 1: “Payback”

In one of “The Boys'” most shocking scenes yet, the character known as Termite demonstrated a unique ability: he could shrink himself to an incredibly small size at will. This might not seem intimidating on its own, but Termite also boasted incredible super strength. So powerful was he that, even in his diminutive form, he could effortlessly throw characters Kimiko and Frenchie around, as if they were inflated with helium.

As a gamer, I’d say it like this: My character, Termite, had more tricks up his sleeve than just shrinking. He could survive falls from incredible heights while small, and here’s the catch – he could transform himself into a tiny explosive device! By burrowing inside people and then expanding back to normal size, he’d obliterate them in a mess of blood. Unfortunately for Termite, his immense powers became his undoing when Homelander, in an accidental landing, turned him into a gruesome smear on the floor.

4 Popclaw

Retractable Claws

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 1, Episode 3: “Get Some”

As someone who has spent years studying and observing the world of superheroes and villains, I can confidently say that having retractable claws is not the worst superpower one could have. Take Wolverine, for instance, a grumpy old mutant with a heart of gold. His razor-sharp claws are not just for show; they’ve saved him more times than he can count.

Unfortunately, Popclaw didn’t have many chances to showcase her impressive powers except for a grim incident where she inadvertently harmed her unlucky landlord during an unfortunate sexual encounter. Her involvement in events was primarily limited to the Boys using her as a source of information about Compound V, which kept her unique abilities relatively unknown among the fanbase.

3 Sister Sage

Superhuman Intelligence

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 4, Episode 1: “Department of Dirty Tricks”

It’s somewhat ironic that, despite possessing intelligence capable of overthrowing governments or finding cures for diseases as formidable as cancer, Sister Sage is frequently underestimated. Her extraordinary talents often go unrecognized due to her absence of conventional superpowers, leaving her remarkable abilities undervalued and overlooked.

Although Sage might not appear intimidating physically, her mental prowess more than compensates. Susan Heyward’s entry in Season 4 often seems to anticipate her adversaries, already considering their next move before it even crosses their minds. The predicament that The Boys find themselves in by the end of the recent season is unprecedented and unimaginable without Sage’s intervention.

2 Kenji Miyashiro

Telekinesis

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 2, Episode 1: “The Big Ride”

Aya Cash’s character, Stormfront, quickly overpowered him, but special recognition goes to Kenji Miyashiro for his telekinetic abilities. Few superhumans can momentarily entomb the seemingly all-powerful Homelander beneath the earth, yet Kimiko’s late brother effortlessly demonstrated this feat.

Labeled as “The Super Terrorist” by U.S. media, a past member of the Shining Light Liberation Army displayed an awe-inspiring power, effortlessly overturning a massive harbor ship and sending a police helicopter flying like a toddler tosses a soft toy. Unfortunately for Kenji, his brief appearance on the show has led to his remarkable abilities being underestimated.

1 Crimson Countess

Fireball Generation

Most Underrated Powers In The Boys
  • First appears in: Season 3, Episode 2: “The Only Man in the Sky”

Despite the Boys easily overpowering her, it’s easy to underestimate the powers of Crimson Countess. Soldier Boy’s ex-partner and an original member of the superhero team Payback, Laurie Holden’s character possessed the unique ability to create explosive fireballs simply by touching her hands together.

Prior to her ex-lover unleashing a radioactive burst on her, the Countess’s modest physique hid the immense explosive force she possessed. This surprising power level left many viewers in awe. Her fireballs could obliterate adversaries or unfortunate Voughtland mascots, reducing them to gruesome piles of internal organs. She utilized this superpower to aid in subduing Soldier Boy during Operation Charly, an operation that ultimately failed.
