MPL Becomes First Esports Series With ONE BILLION Hours Watched

As a gamer with decades under my belt and countless hours spent in virtual battlefields, I can confidently say that the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) has truly outdone itself by becoming the first esports series to reach a staggering one billion hours watched. This achievement is nothing short of remarkable, leaving even established giants like League of Legends, LCK, and The International in its dust.

A significant achievement was reached by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League as it became the first-ever esports series to be watched for an astounding total of one billion hours. This impressive statistic is based on data from Esports Charts, which has been tracking such figures since 2016.

This implies that the MPL has surpassed several notable esports competitions, including the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds), LCK, Valorant Champions Tour, and The International, in achieving this impressive feat. However, they are not significantly behind these events. It’s predicted that the viewership for Worlds will exceed one billion before the ongoing tournament concludes.

Immense Numbers

In the study released by Esports Charts, we gain an insightful perspective on several contrasts that underscore the remarkable nature of this feat for the Mobile Legends: Professional League (MPL).

To better understand ML:BB’s success in the mobile gaming industry, it’s worth noting that the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) attracts approximately four times as many viewers as the PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL). Both leagues have similar total airtime. Additionally, the MPL logged more than three times the viewing hours of Twitch Rivals, a platform with over 600 tournaments that caters to large, dedicated audiences of well-known internet personalities.

The success of ML:BB is a testament to the power of mobile gaming. We recently published a report outlining the growth of mobile esports viewership in the last few months – and it’s a figure that continues to grow.

Although the game has achieved significant success within Asia, its reach extends only minimally beyond these markets due to a limited presence elsewhere. It enjoys immense popularity in Indonesia and the Philippines, and is gaining traction in Latin America and Middle Eastern regions, but it hasn’t resonated with European and North American audiences or professional players as of yet.

Moonton Games is still diligently developing the MPL, which was first introduced in 2017 and has grown significantly ever since.
