2025, I’m beyond excited! Guess who just learned that Wizards of the Coast is merging Magic: the Gathering with Avatar: The Last Airbender? Yours truly! Can’t wait to weave spells and bend elements in this epic crossover.
2025 sees some monumental collaborations in Magic: The Gathering, as Marvel sets are slated for release and pre-orders for the Final Fantasy cards have already been snapped up online. Simultaneously, expansions based within Magic: The Gathering’s multiverse unfold, furthering its narrative.
This year, a crossover set titled “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will be released on November 21, 2025. This was announced at MagicCon: Chicago. You can watch a sneak peek of the set on the official Magic: The Gathering YouTube channel, and more information is available on the official Magic: The Gathering website.
The Avatar Is Coming To MTG

Sadly, beyond the announced launch date, not much detail has emerged regarding the Avatar-themed set. What we do know is that it’s a collection designed for standard play, filled with characters from the show, both heroes and villains. However, it remains uncertain if it will feature characters originating from The Legend of Korra as well.
It’s quite likely that the collection will draw extensively from the four fundamental elements and feature numerous characters associated with each. This idea is not entirely novel in the realm of Magic: The Gathering, implying that some original mechanics could be reintroduced, tailored explicitly for Avatar-themed gameplay.
The release dates for Avatar (November) and Final Fantasy (June) have been set, but the question remains when we can expect the Marvel’s Spider-Man crossover to drop, since it’s slated for 2025. It could possibly appear between these two releases or get delayed until the following year.
Regardless of the situation, it’s delightful news that the cast from Avatar is entering the Magic: The Gathering universe. They seem more suitable than certain characters who’ve crossed over in the past, such as those from The Walking Dead. If Jumbo Cactuar serves as an example, then the developers should find it easy to create overpowered cards based on Avatar’s most potent heroes.
