- MultiVersus Season 5 could be the game’s last, according to a prominent leaker.
- Recent controversies and a dropping player count have put MultiVersus on shaky ground.
- Season 5 will reportedly add Lola Bunny, Aquaman, and the Wicked Witch of the West to the game’s roster.
There are whispers circulating that Season 5 could be the final chapter for the MultiVersus game. However, it’s important to note that neither Player First Games nor Warner Bros., the developers and producers respectively, have confirmed this yet. Still, a well-known leaker of MultiVersus news is suggesting that the fate of this free-to-play fighting game could hinge on how Season 5 performs.
A game styled after “Smash Bros” was introduced, featuring a diverse roster of characters hailing from multiple Warner Bros. intellectual properties. Known as “MultiVersus”, it entered open beta in 2022 before its official release in May 2024. It quickly gained popularity on Steam, and while more recent reviews have been evenly split, the game maintains an impressive approval rating of 77% on this PC-based gaming platform.
However, as per Twitter user @AusilMVS, who primarily focuses on sharing leaks about the game MultiVersus, a reliable source has reportedly suggested that the game is in a precarious state. This upcoming season, set to begin on February 4, might be an attempt to save the game, potentially being referred to as a “last-ditch effort.” The leaker, who has previously shared accurate details about future characters, move sets, and other relevant information, has not disclosed their source and cautions that the information remains unverified unless confirmed with absolute certainty. Nevertheless, many within the gaming community find this speculation plausible.
MultiVersus Season 5 Might Be a ‘Last-Ditch Effort’ to Save the Game
Although MultiVersus initially enjoyed great success during its open beta and launch phase, it has faced challenges since then and can be seen as essentially starting anew. By February 2023, the game had lost a staggering 90% of its Steam players before its official release. Furthermore, MultiVersus has been embroiled in various controversies, such as having to replace the voice actors for characters like Rick and Morty due to legal issues and allegations against original actor Justin Roiland involving inappropriate conduct.
Despite the rumor’s validity being uncertain, Player First appears to be moving forward with Season 5. Although the developer has been vague about what players can anticipate shortly after February, leaks suggest that three new characters – Lola Bunny from Space Jam, Aquaman of DC, and the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz – will join the roster in MultiVersus Season 5. While each character has their fan base, the inclusion of the Wicked Witch could be a significant draw for Season 5 given the recent success of the movie musical Wicked, which was released in November 2024. However, some players seem underwhelmed by the roster additions.
