Muzan’s Secret Family: Tragic Truth Behind Demon Slayer’s Villain

Oh, let me tell you about my fascination with the Demon Slayer universe’s supreme antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji! This malevolent force wasn’t just any ordinary being; he was the initial demon to roam our world. Born with a rare and lethal affliction, young Muzan sought a cure. In his quest for life, he was administered experimental medication, but alas, it transformed him into the demon we now know as Muzan.

Since that moment, he started fashioning dies from humanity and constructing a world unique to him, transforming humans into demons in the process. His power grew significantly, encompassing regenerative capabilities, immense strength, and immortality. However, his one vulnerability is exposure to sunlight. In his quest for invulnerability to sunlight, did Muzan have companions or a family with him throughout this transformation?

A Wife And Daughter To Hold?

Why Muzan Had A Family Who Are Never Seen Again

The series doesn’t provide much insight into Muzan’s background or his family, leading many to speculate that he might have killed them upon becoming a demon. However, it appears that the idea of family was not something that mattered to Muzan, as he only cared about himself and sought to overcome the weakness of sunlight, disregarding human life. The series does depict a ‘pretend’ family for Muzan; being adept at disguise, Muzan assumed the role of a loving husband and father under the name Tsukihiko. He portrayed himself as a wealthy man with a wife named Rei and a young daughter.

In my observations, this disguise serves a crucial role for him – it helps him assimilate within society by presenting as an ordinary family man, thereby keeping the Demon Slayers at bay. By projecting an image of wealth, he manages to keep his influential circle among the affluent, enabling him to work alongside humans without causing undue suspicion or alarm.

I am a perfect creature that is infinitely close to perfection.

It’s uncertain if he truly cared for this family beyond using them as cover, since his wife and daughter appeared to be mere tools for him to blend in unnoticed. He didn’t seem to value human connections unless they were beneficial to his goals. In the show, Muzan is depicted taking a stroll with his wife and daughter in the city, where he gets exposed by Tanjiro.

In this instance, Muzan, evidently unsettled, suddenly assaults an innocent bystander, unnoticed by others, causing a fuss as he departs with his kin. Tanjiro is left to handle the bystander’s demonic transformation. The wife and daughter are not mentioned later in the series, leading many to infer they may have suffered the same fate shared by Muzan’s other victims. This suggests that family held no importance to Muzan, as he would ruthlessly dispose of them without hesitation if necessary.

The Concept Of Family Is Non-Existent To Muzan

Nothing Could Stop Muzan From Accomplishing His Goal

In Demon Slayer, family ties are a significant theme, like the Spider clan and Tanjiro’s bond with Nezuko. On the other hand, Muzan Kibutsuji stands out, characterized by his thirst for power which led to his suspicious nature and eventual ruin. His desire for control and manipulation proved futile in the end. The series does hint at Muzan’s distant relatives, specifically mentioning that he too was part of the Ubuyashiki lineage, sharing a common ancestry with them.

Due to the fact that the first demon emerged from their ancestry, the family was afflicted with a curse, resulting in every male descendant being born with a fatal illness that takes their lives before they reach maturity. Yet surprisingly, instead of joining forces, Muzan opted for darkness, while the Ubuyashiki Family decided to oppose him, sacrificing their entire lineage to eliminate the demon king, Muzan.
