As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the Esports World Cup has once again proven itself to be a hotbed for intense competition and unexpected twists. The Modern Warfare 3 tournament is shaping up to be a spectacle, with the top eight teams battling it out for a share of the massive $600,000 prize pool.
The playoff bracket for Modern Warfare 3’s category at the Esports World Cup is now fully assembled and is stacked top to bottom with CDL teams. Every lower-tier competitor has been eliminated, but nobody has gone home empty-handed.
Starting tomorrow, the most prominent squads – Cloud9, Atlanta FaZe, OpTic Gaming among others – will engage in fierce competition for a staggering $600,000 prize and 1,000 Club Championship Points. Over the past couple of days, this tournament has seen its fair share of thrilling moments, hinting at an electrifying COD esports weekend ahead.
CDL Through and Through
At the onset of the MW3 tournament during the Esports World Cup, several teams that were considered Challenger-level took the stage. These teams emerged from the circuit beneath the CDL, including Gentle Mates, OMiT Brooklyn, Stallions, Lore Gaming, as well as Team Falcons who managed to qualify through a MENA qualifying event.
100 Thieves recently eliminated the remaining teams from the tournament, following their victory over Lore Gaming. Interestingly, Lore Gaming had emerged victorious in the Challengers Champs tournament just a few weeks ago, pocketing a prize of $60,000.
Here are the fixtures that will kick off the single-elimination playoffs bracket tomorrow:
- Optic Gaming vs. Cloud9
- Atlanta FaZe vs. Boston Breach
- Toronto Ultra vs. 100 Thieves
- Vancouver Surge vs. Royal Ravens
Optic, Toronto, Surge, and FaZe advanced without losing a series so far, while Cloud9 faced some challenges against Vancouver, resulting in a loss that was later rectified versus Gentle Mates. The matchup against Vancouver Surge was grueling at times, appearing peculiar at points. In the initial round of Search on Invasion, HyDra played exceptionally well, achieving a score of 21 – 9, but it wasn’t sufficient to secure the map victory.
On the night of August 18th, the title of EWC champion will be bestowed. The odds in esports suggest that FaZe, OpTic, and Toronto have a strong chance, but this isn’t unexpected. Could OpTic claim two consecutive world championships?
