MW3 players call out missed opportunity with Paintball mode that’s just ‘Hardcore reskin’

As a veteran gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game modes and their iterations. The announcement of the Paintball mode in Modern Warfare 3’s Season 5 Reloaded has certainly piqued my interest, but it’s left me feeling somewhat divided. On one hand, the idea of painted bullets and Operators being eliminated with a single shot sounds like a fresh take on the traditional multiplayer experience. However, the lack of an exclusive map for this mode feels like a missed opportunity.

Players of Modern Warfare 3 are being introduced to a fresh Paintball mode in Season 5 Reloaded, yet there’s some uncertainty regarding how distinct this new mode will be from Hardcore, given that it lacks a unique map.

Paintball brings painted bullets that splatter colors onto enemies and the environment, and also sees Operators eliminated after one shot, much like the real sport.

Competitors will battle in both Hardpoint and Domination game modes on different maps, including cel-shaded versions. Although this setup seems exciting, some critics are dismissing it because of its resemblance to Hardcore mode. Additionally, a few players express disappointment that they didn’t introduce an exclusive map for this specific experience.

On Reddit, user ‘Comprehensive_Rice27’ emphasized their preference for the mode and expressed a desire to have it include a “paintball-style map” like Rush from Black Ops 2 or Speedball from Modern Warfare 2019. They suggested that this type of map be incorporated into the Stadium on Warzone’s Vondel as well.

In the comments section, a majority concurred with the original poster’s viewpoint, while a few went as far as labeling the post as “extremely artistic with its use of color.”

“Reskined Hardcore basically?” asked one user, while another shared a similar comment, “So Hardcore with blue blood? lol.”

People within the community believe that having an exclusive map might have set this apart even more from Hardcore, and some suggest that altering the bullet speed could make the gameplay more similar to paintballing as well.

Is there a possibility that they will limit the speed of bullets to approximately 100 meters per second, making the game’s mode distinct rather than simply intense with a paintball-like feel?

Although both Hardcore and Paintball involve the possibility of one-shot eliminations, it’s important to note that Hardcore comes with additional features such as team kills, absence of a mini-map, heads-up display (HUD), and crosshairs. These unique elements are not explicitly mentioned in this discussion.

Let’s keep an eye on whether Paintball resembles Hardcore or differs when it debuts in Season 5 Reloaded. With this update, we’ll also get fresh content such as a new cel-shaded map design and several new weapons before the end of the season.
