MW3 players fear new cel-shaded variant will only make hated map variety worse

As a long-time gamer with countless hours spent on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, I must admit that the recent updates have left me feeling a bit disillusioned. The arrival of cel-shaded maps like Stash House’s Ink House in Season 5 Reloaded is another blow to the map variety that many players, including myself, have been clamoring for.

As a dedicated player, I’ve noticed that despite the recent update aimed at enhancing map diversity in Modern Warfare 3, there’s still a palpable sense of dissatisfaction among the community. The discontent might escalate even further with the upcoming cel-shaded iteration of Stash House slated for Season 5 Reloaded.

In Season 5, cel-shaded maps haven’t exactly been met with enthusiasm, as players argue that the artistic style doesn’t aid in spotting enemies effectively. Additionally, these cel-shaded versions of the maps have faced harsh criticism for limiting the overall map diversity.

Users have experienced instances where they need to decide between a standard map and a cel-shaded version, similar to the choices seen in games like Rust and Tonoxide. Despite recent updates intended to resolve this issue, some players remain concerned that Ink House may exacerbate the problem instead of improving it.

In the upcoming Season 5 Reloaded, we’ll be introducing a fresh take on the Stash House map – a cel-shaded variant. This was announced alongside several other new game modes. This update gives players an additional opportunity to choose between the original Stash House and its cel-shaded counterpart, Ink House, during map voting.

The problem is particularly noticeable in the Small Map Mosh Pit, and it’s been reported as well in Quick Play, which is expected to have a larger variety of maps.

In response to a Reddit post focusing on the issue, gamers voiced their displeasure about another comic-style map being added to the game. “Goodness gracious, you’re making the experience even worse,” lamented one player, while another echoed similar sentiments, “It seems like they’re intentionally causing pain with this cel-shading.”

While some individuals in the discussion hold favorable views towards cel-shaded maps, it’s important to note that there’s also a positive aspect to Ink House’s announcement. A user expressed their viewpoint by saying, “Though controversial, I appreciate the cel shaded maps. They provide me with additional maps for efficiently earning camo rewards and they look appealing.”

Another shared a similar sentiment, as they also claimed to like cel-shaded maps, but they added that the devs should “probably remove the original version of the variant map, so it’s not filling the map pool.”

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that when Season 5 Reloaded patch arrives, it might include changes to the map selection. Previously, the developers have addressed concerns by making updates, so there’s a chance they may follow suit again if they choose to.

In simple terms, Black Ops 6 will unveil numerous fresh maps for gamers to explore, and you have the chance to try out these maps ahead of time during the early access beta!
