MW3 Snipers Only mode “killed” by players using Shotgun exploit

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours invested in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, I find myself disheartened by the current state of the Snipers Only mode in Season 5. The joy of this mode lies in its focus on precision and one-shot accuracy, making each encounter a test of skill. However, it seems that some players have found loopholes, such as using the JAK Widemouth Barrel to convert Sniper Rifles into shotguns or the Longbow with iron sights, effectively turning it into a Marksman Rifle.

In MW3, the Sniper-Only game mode seems to be losing its essence because players are employing semi-automatic rifles, and remarkably, some have discovered a method to deploy shotguns as well.

In an unexpected twist, even though the game settings suggest Snipers are the exclusive choice, some players have managed to utilize Shotguns. This is due to the JAK Widemouth Barrel that made its debut in Week 1 of Season 5, which serves as a Conversion Kit for the MORS, effectively transforming the Sniper rifle into a close-quarters Shotgun.

Using a Shotgun instead of a Sniper rifle, which is typically designed for that purpose, seems to provide quite an edge, but it’s causing frustration among the players.

On Reddit, members of the community are highlighting issues that have caused some players to quit due to frustration: “After playing several games, it was truly frustrating to be shotgunned, so I decided to stop playing.”

One drew a comparison between the Shotgun in Snipers Only to the Underbarrel flamethrower attachment that players frequently used during headshots-only gameplay.

In reply to a Reddit post discussing the JAK Widemouth Barrel functioning within the Snipers Only playlist, someone commented, “Great job! You’ve effectively eliminated this game mode!”

1. The use of Aftermarket Part attachments compromises the original design concept, which emphasizes accuracy and single-shot precision, but there’s more to it. Many players find issue with the Longbow’s incorporation as well, due to its semi-automatic firing speed being far more lenient compared to bolt-action alternatives.

“Equipping my longbow with iron sights or a compact scope transforms it into a sniper-like weapon, and I can’t stand going up against other players who do the same: ‘I can’t stand playing against longbow users without scopes, they are like snipers!'”

Players employing bolt-action snipers in the game mode are seeking opponents with similar gear setups, aiming for a balanced environment reminiscent of a quickscoping lobby. Regrettably, this is not the reality as the Snipers Only mode tends to attract players who manipulate rules and search for exploits to secure effortless kills.
