The characters in My Hero Academia truly shine when they unlock new abilities and experience important personal growth. These moments often captivate audiences, even if the character doesn’t win. It’s interesting to note that many of the series’ most beloved and powerful characters also have impressive win records, which demonstrates their development and keeps viewers engaged.
In My Hero Academia, a few characters – mainly heroes – have consistently come out on top in battles. They’ve fought in a lot of conflicts and won the majority, with some winning around two-thirds of their fights. While it’s unrealistic to expect anyone to win every battle in a long anime series like My Hero Academia, certain fighters with unique abilities come remarkably close.
All Might Wins Battles But Lost the War Against Villainy
All Might Has a Mixed Record Fighting All For One

As fans of My Hero Academia know, All Might has won more battles than he’s lost, but the difference isn’t as big as you might assume. He easily defeated small-time villains at the beginning of the Two Heroes movie and barely won against All For One in a flashback. After that, his successes were less consistent. Early in his career, All Might had some impressive victories, like his Plus Ultra fight against the absorption Nomu at USJ and his win over All For One in Kamino Ward. He also assisted Deku in defeating Wolfram during the first movie.
Although All Might has faced defeats – including losses to All For One and even to Deku and Bakugo during a training exercise – his win-loss record isn’t the most important thing. Fans enjoy seeing the symbol of peace win, but ultimately, simply repeating the same strategies won’t improve society. Despite the power of his attacks, All Might consistently relies on these familiar methods, offering no real change to the hero industry.
Tomura Shigaraki Scored Major Victories But Couldn’t Defeat Deku
Tomura Owes Some Victories to All For One
Image via studio Bones. All For One isn’t a particularly strong fighter, but his student, Tomura Shigaraki, has a better record. All For One’s only significant loss happened in Season 8 when Deku defeated him by destroying him from within, a move that meant giving up One For All and all its powers. Many of Tomura’s defeats weren’t truly his fault – for example, his attempt to kill All Might with a special Nomu failed, and he couldn’t finish off Deku at the hospital. A villain as powerful as Tomura needs a bit of luck to avoid being captured by heroes determined to stop him.
I’ve been watching Tomura’s fights, and he’s consistently come out on top. Remember his wins against smaller heroes like X-Less back in Season 6? He even managed to defeat Re-Destro, which really solidified his position as the leader of the Paranormal Liberation Front. But honestly, what really got people talking – and impressed a lot of My Hero Academia fans – was seeing him go head-to-head with and beat Star and Stripe, the top hero over in America. Sure, All For One has definitely helped him along the way, but Tomura still earned those victories.
Fumikage Tokoyami Has Proven Himself a Top-Ranked UA Student
Fumikage’s Victories Aren’t Flashy, But They Are Numerous
Image via studio Bones. Among the top students in Class 1-A at UA, Fumikage Tokoyami stands out as a consistently successful fighter. Though not considered one of the main heroes, he’s quickly becoming a powerful force thanks to his skill with Dark Shadow and the support he receives. He’s rarely defeated, with his only significant losses being to Bakugo – where Bakugo’s explosions interfered with Dark Shadow – and a close match against Kinoko Komori, where he put up a strong fight.
Fumikage has a consistently impressive winning record, which must be a great feeling for him. He and Tsuyu Asui easily won against Ectoplasm in training, and during the sports festival, he defeated both Momo and Mina before ultimately losing to Bakugo. In the movie Heroes: Rising, Fumikage fought and defeated the villain Slice, carefully controlling Dark Shadow’s powerful, sometimes uncontrollable, abilities. While Deku and Bakugo’s fight with Nine was the main event of the movie, it’s important to remember Fumikage’s own significant victories.
Katsuki Bakugo Has Blasted His Way to Victory Many Times
Bakugo Even Defeated the Grim Reaper With Edgeshot’s Help
Image via studio Bones. Katsuki Bakugo, as Deku’s main rival, has a remarkably high win rate in My Hero Academia. While he suffered a defeat and temporary death at the hands of Tomura Shigaraki, Edgeshot was able to save him. Bakugo not only recovered from this near-fatal experience but ultimately surpassed even Deku by destroying All For One himself. Interestingly, Bakugo had already given up on becoming the top hero at that point, but defeating All For One gave him a feeling of truly being number one.
Bakugo experienced an early setback in Season 1 when he couldn’t prevent Ochaco and Deku from capturing the bomb, but overall, he’s consistently won his battles. He dominated all four matches at the UA Sports Festival, although he felt unsatisfied because he didn’t get to face Shoto at full strength. Throughout My Hero Academia, Bakugo wrestled with personal challenges that he didn’t overcome until later, which explains why even winning against Deku in their nighttime fight didn’t feel rewarding. In the movies, Bakugo’s victories are clearer – he teamed up with Deku to defeat Nine and single-handedly beat the Serpenters in World Heroes Mission.
Shoto Todoroki’s Massive Talent Helped Him Secure Many Wins in the Anime
Shoto Resents His Lineage But Has Put it to Good Use in Battle
Image via studio Bones. Shoto Todoroki is one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, alongside Bakugo and Deku, and his impressive win record proves it. He rarely loses, and even his one defeat in the sports festival – against Bakugo – happened when he wasn’t fully engaged. It’s unclear if he could have won that match, which makes his overall success rate seem even better. During the joint training exercise, while he didn’t manage to defeat Class 1-B’s team, his team also didn’t lose, and he played a significant role before being incapacitated.
Since then, Shoto has consistently won battles, delivering impressive performances. While fans may not remember every fight – like when he single-handedly won a team battle during the hero license exam – his victories have been numerous. He quickly won his first three matches at the sports festival against Sero, Deku, and Tenya, and later assisted Deku and Tenya in their fight against Stain. However, Shoto’s most meaningful wins are those with personal significance, such as when he and Momo worked together to overcome Eraser Head in a practical exam. His greatest victory came when he and his family confronted Dabi, leaving Toya Todoroki with feelings of regret and potentially paving the way for his redemption.
Deku Has Saved the Day More Times Than Anime Fans Can Count
One For All Turned Deku From a Zero to a Hero Who Almost Always Wins

It’s no surprise that Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, has the highest win rate in the anime. While he’s had a few notable defeats – like his close match against Shoto at the sports festival and his battle with Bakugo – these are far outweighed by his many victories, which is what fans enjoy seeing. As the successor to All Might and the new symbol of peace, Deku feels immense pressure to win against villains. This pressure did lead to a difficult period for him, often called his ‘Dark Deku’ phase, but ultimately contributed to many wins for the star of My Hero Academia.
Deku’s triumphs weren’t just about strength; while he won battles like his second fight against Muscular or when he defeated Stain to save Tenya, his most meaningful victories came from the heart. Deku fights because he genuinely cares about helping others, and that’s clear in his best moments. He didn’t just defeat Muscular to rescue Kota – he also rekindled Kota’s faith in heroes. Ultimately, his final battle with Tomura was deeply personal, as Deku risked everything to reach the person hidden within Tomura – Tenko Shimura.
