Toshinori Yagi, more famously known as All Might, is the top Pro Hero in the world of My Hero Academia and a symbol of peace for all of Japan. Given his incredible reputation and titles, it’s natural to expect him to demonstrate his great power throughout the anime and manga series.
There’s a slight issue: because All Might passed on his power, One for All, to Izuku Midoriya early in the story, most of his incredibly powerful moments happen in the beginning, through flashbacks, or in the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. Still, there are a few standout scenes that show just how strong the Symbol of Peace really was, and here are eight of the most famous examples from the entire My Hero Academia franchise.
Armored All Might
The Only Time He Fought His Arch-Enemy Without Any Powers
- Chapter 396 (Manga) Episode 159 (Anime)
Toshinori Yagi wasn’t just a powerful hero; his unwavering determination and dedication to protecting people – qualities that remained strong even after he lost his Quirk – were key to becoming the #1 Pro Hero. This is why, during the Final War Arc, he bravely faced his greatest enemy, All for One, using a robotic suit to help him fight.
All Might’s armored suit let him fight All For One for a surprisingly long time, and it was special because it incorporated abilities inspired by the quirks of his students in Class 1-A. While another hero could have worn the suit, no one else could have used it to withstand All For One’s attacks as effectively or for as long as All Might did.
Using Detroit Smash Against The Sludge Villain
One Of Many Instances In Which Deku Inspired Him (And Not The Other Way Around)
- Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 2 (Anime)
The bond between Deku and All Might truly began when Bakugo was captured by the Sludge Villain. Everyone hesitated to intervene, fearing for Bakugo’s safety, but Deku instinctively ran towards danger to save his friend. This courageous act impressed All Might so much that he finally decided to reveal his power and defeat the villain.
All Might’s powerful Detroit Smash quickly defeated the Sludge Villain and rescued Bakugo, even creating a small tornado in the process. This moment, like many others, demonstrated his incredible strength and established him as a hero far beyond the reach of almost anyone else – both good and bad.
Defeating The Bombers At The Sky Egg
Vigilantes Features A Younger All Might During His Prime
- Chapter 55 (Vigilantes Manga)
For much of the early part of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, All Might doesn’t have a major presence, mostly appearing in the background or when Koichi talks about him. But he really stepped up and became central to the story during the Sky Egg Arc, where he was the one who ultimately resolved the crisis.
When the Tokyo Sky Egg came under attack by a group of Bombers, All Might immediately rushed to the scene to help. He saved Koichi and Captain Celebrity from a deadly fall and then defeated a large group of Bombers with a single Nebraska Smash. This was an impressive feat, especially considering many Pro Heroes witnessed the incident, but All Might was the only one who successfully stopped Number 6’s scheme while also preventing significant damage and injuries.
Defeating The Bombers At Naruhata Ward
All Might’s Final Display Of Power In The Spin-Off Series
- Chapter 122 (Vigilantes Manga)
This situation is very similar to the last one, except it happens at the end of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes rather than in the middle. During the intense “Naruhata Lockdown Arc,” Number 6 carefully created a plan to devastate the ward and block all Pro Heroes – even All Might – from intervening. Predictably, the plan ultimately failed.
Despite being extremely busy, the top-ranked hero still managed to visit Naruhata after the fight between Koichi and Number Six to finish off the remaining villains. He quickly and easily defeated a large group of these powerful enemies, which was particularly notable considering how dangerous they’d seemed throughout the rest of the conflict. He did this right in front of Endeavor, highlighting the significant difference in their strength at that time.
Defeating Wolfram Alongside Deku
The Only Time In Which All Might And Deku Fought A Powerful Supervillain Together
- My Hero Academia: Two Heroes
The way One For All functions, and the fact that All Might passed it to Deku so early in the story, meant the original manga didn’t have many chances for them to battle a villain side-by-side. Interestingly, this exact situation did happen in the first My Hero Academia movie, Two Heroes – and it’s officially part of the series’ canon.
The film’s primary villain, Wolfram, was sent by All For One to defeat All Might – which is why he possessed multiple Quirks. He also boosted his electromagnetic abilities using a Quirk Amplification Device created by David Shield. Despite his immense power, Wolfram was ultimately confronted by All Might and Deku, who teamed up for a climactic battle. Skillfully evading his attacks, the mentor and student duo delivered a powerful Double Detroit Smash, shattering Wolfram’s massive metal form and finally stopping his scheme.
Defeating The U.S.J. Nomu
He Was Able To Overpower A Villain That Was Designed To Counter Him
- Chapter 19 (Manga) Episode 12 (Anime)
Throughout his career as a Pro Hero, All Might battled and overcame numerous Nomus. However, his fight against the U.S.J. Nomu was particularly noteworthy. This powerful, artificially created villain was specifically engineered to challenge All Might, possessing immense strength and durability. It could also withstand All Might’s attacks thanks to abilities like Shock Absorption and Super Regeneration, and the ability to use multiple Quirks.
Keep in mind that by this time, All Might had already given One for All to Deku. He was fighting with only a tiny bit of his power left and could lose it completely at any moment. Even with those challenges, All Might still fought with everything he had, landing over 300 punches on the Nomu, finishing with a powerful final blow that sent it flying. Ultimately, his only focus was protecting his students from the League of Villains, and he wouldn’t let anything stand in his way.
Defeating All For One (The First Time)
The Legendary Moment That Cemented Him As The Symbol Of Peace
- Chapter 59 (Manga) Episode 33 (Anime)
All Might became the world’s #1 Hero and a symbol of peace because he defeated All For One, the most dangerous villain ever known. After watching his mentor die, All Might spent years training in the United States, growing stronger until he was ready to return to Japan and finally stop All For One’s destructive rule.
This epic battle was only shown in short flashbacks in both the anime and manga, leaving fans wanting more. Despite this, the story makes it clear this fight was a turning point for All Might and All For One. All Might not only defeated his greatest enemy, severely injuring his face and forcing him into hiding for years, but also became the Symbol of Peace. However, the fight left All Might with lasting injuries that limited his ability to use his powers, ultimately leading him to search for a successor.
United States Of Smash
The Most Important (And Unforgettable) Moment In All Of My Hero Academia
- Chapter 94 (Manga) Episode 49 (Anime)
The decades-long conflict between All Might and All for One was captivating, and it ultimately reached its inevitable end during the Hideout Raid Arc. Their final battle pushed both heroes to their absolute limits, with All for One unleashing the full force of his many dangerous Quirks, and All Might fighting with the last vestiges of his strength.
Just when All Might seemed defeated, he gathered every ounce of One for All into a single, incredible punch – his ultimate move, United States of Smash. This powerful attack finally defeated the villain and proved that Toshinori Yagi truly deserved the title of Symbol of Peace. It’s a moment many fans consider one of the best in My Hero Academia. Although the attack left All Might without a quirk, he wasn’t worried, knowing that his chosen successor, Izuku Midoriya, would continue his heroic work.
