Summary
- Tomura Shigaraki, leader of the League of Villains, harbors a deep hatred for All Might.
- Recovery Girl’s healing Quirk saves many, including Deku, from debilitating injuries.
- Katsuki Bakugo, known for his explosive personality, undergoes significant character growth.
As one of the prominent shonen series currently available, “My Hero Academia,” penned by Kohei Horikoshi, has garnered immense popularity as both a manga and anime. The narrative within this franchise is intricate and expansive, not shy about delving into the sinister aspects of a superhuman society and its champions. Similarly, the villains in this series are depicted in an unusual manner that stirs empathy in readers and viewers, as many of them are pitiful outcomes of a world that discarded them and their special abilities (Quirks).
Because the Japanese academic year starts in April, individuals born during this time are considered the eldest within their group of students. It’s interesting that several significant characters from the series share birthdays in April. Whether they play a pivotal role or are somewhat underestimated, here are some characters from My Hero Academia who were born in April, each one distinctive for their individual qualities.
1. Tomura Shigaraki (April 4th)
Deku’s Evil Yet Tragic Arch Nemesis
- First Appearance: Chapter 11 (Manga) Episode 8 (Anime)
The main adversary in our series and head of the League of Villains, known as Tomura Shigaraki, is destined to be history’s most notorious villain. His birth name is Tenko Shimura, and he’s a relative with ties to All Might’s former mentor. However, due to a deeply sorrowful past, he was nurtured by All For One, who transformed him into an instrument for his wicked schemes, adopting the name “Tomura Shigaraki”. His innate power, ‘Decay’, is highly lethal and was responsible for the demise of his family.
In a striking initial appearance, Tomura donned the mementos of his lost family members, carrying them with him. His intense loathing for All Might mirrors that of his former mentor. Upon acquiring All For One’s stolen abilities, Shigaraki and All For One merge into one entity; yet, the true identity of Tenko Shimura lies hidden within. Despite numerous encounters between Deku and Shigaraki/All For One, he remains steadfast in his conviction that Tomura’s genuine self yearns to be rescued.
2. Recovery Girl (April 4th)
U.A. Wouldn’t Be Able To Exist Without Her
- First Appearance: Chapter 4 (Manga) Episode 4 (Anime)
Chiyo Shuzenji, often known as Recovery Girl, plays a crucial role in U.A.’s staff. Her extraordinary ability allows her to heal an extensive range of wounds by giving the injured person a kiss. She’s one of the few who are aware of the true nature of One For All. In the beginning, Deku struggles to master One For All and, despite his brief tenure at the school, he becomes her primary patient. This is a point she often scolds All Might about.
This ‘healing’ ability of hers often spares numerous individuals from severe disabilities that would otherwise result from their injuries. Yet, even at its strongest, it doesn’t always suffice in the most extreme cases. Still, characters like Deku and many others owe a significant debt to this seemingly potent character.
3. Kesagiri Man (April 4th)
A Minor Character Yet Hidden Easter Egg
- First Appearance: Chapter 134 (Manga) Episode 69 (Anime)
Although he might share a birthday with several significant characters within the series, Kesagiri Man remains as enigmatic and unassuming as any of them. His involvement in the story may not be as prominent as others, but he was part of the events associated with the Yakuza group Shie Hassaikai. He attended a meeting led by Sir Nighteye and became privy to the escalating situation surrounding the Eight Bullets.
When the heroes set out to dismantle the Shie Hassaikai, Kesagiri Man actively confronts the thugs, contributing significantly (albeit in a limited capacity) to the mission. In essence, Kesagiri Man serves as a hidden detail or reference, as his appearance is adapted from Horikoshi’s previous work.
4. Naomasa Tsukauchi (April 4th)
Held In High Regard By All Might Himself
- First Appearance: Chapter 11 (Manga) Episode 13 (Anime)
In the series, Naomasa Tsukauchi is a key figure, serving as an indispensable member of the police force in his role as a detective. His diverse abilities, coupled with his unwavering commitment and steadfast adherence to rules, make him exceptionally proficient at his work. In numerous critical and high-pressure scenarios, he has provided valuable assistance to the main characters. Tsukauchi was instrumental in planning the Hideout Raid operation to rescue Katsuki Bakugo from Shigaraki’s Villain League, and he stood by All Might throughout the Final War.
Notably, Tsukauchi held All Might’s utmost trust and was among the hero’s dearest friends. In fact, he was so trusted that All Might revealed his Quirk, One For All, to him – a secret shared with only a select few, making Tsukauchi privy to the genuine essence of the Symbol of Peace.
5. Ragdoll (April 8th)
A Once Powerful Hero Rendered Quirkless
- First Appearance: Chapter 72 (Manga) Episode 41 (Anime)
Originally known as Tomoko Shiretoko, Ragdoll was the pioneer of the Wild, Wild Pussycats and is recognized for her exceptionally cheerful demeanor. Unfortunately, her ability ‘Search’, considered overly beneficial by All For One, marked her as a target. During an attack on the training camp, Katsuki Bakugo was the main focus, but Ragdoll was also abducted, resulting in her Quirk being seized by All For One. This appropriated search ability was later utilized by Shigaraki/All For One to trace the whereabouts of One For All during the Liberation War.
In spite of the unfortunate incidents that stripped Ragdoll Quirkless of her ability to function as a Pro Hero, she lent her assistance to the heroes in whatever capacity she could during the Final War.
6. Moyuru Tochi (April 9th)
A Villain Turned Vigilante

- First Appearance: Chapter 1 (MHA: Vigilantes Manga)
In the comic series “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”, Moyuru is introduced as one of several characters who engage in heroic deeds yet operate outside the legal boundaries set for Quirk use. Originally known as an Instant Villain, Moyuru experiences character development and eventually decides to take up vigilante duties, showing increasing respect for others throughout his transformation.
He possesses the peculiarity known as ‘Ignition’, which grants him the power to ignite small sparks on his head. While this isn’t the most powerful talent, as a malevolent character, he resorted to using the Trigger substance to amplify his capabilities.
7. Snatch (April 14th)
A Kind And Compassionate Hero
- First Appearance: Chapter 160 (Manga) Episode 77 (Anime)
In just a single episode of the anime, The Sand Hero was a character who made an impact; his untimely demise at the hands of the villain, Shigaraki, was something fans didn’t forget. Although it seemed he could withstand Shigaraki’s Decay ability, he ultimately lost to Mr. Compress and Dabi in combat.
Standout character Snatch consistently demonstrated extraordinary empathy and heartfelt concern for those in distress, particularly the bereaved families of victims. In a poignant moment, his parting words to Dabi caused the antagonist to contemplate the impact of these losses, an echo that lingered through the subsequent episodes.
8. Mei Hatsume (April 18th)
One Of U.A.’s Most Brilliant Minds
- First Appearance: Chapter 25 (Manga) Episode 15 (Anime)
Mei Hatsume is an exceptionally talented pupil in the Support program at U.A. Her unique character traits and wide range of abilities have endeared her to many. She initially crosses paths with Deku during the Sports Festival, where she persuades him to form a team with her for promotional purposes, referring to her diverse collection of support gadgets as “babies.” Furthermore, she enhances Deku and his fellow students’ hero suits by incorporating numerous innovative features that aid them in effectively utilizing their Quirks.
As an inventive whiz, I pour every spare moment into crafting my next groundbreaking creation. The ‘Divide and Conquer’ strategy that our team devised for the Final War, otherwise known as the “Coffin in the Sky,” was entirely due to Hatsume’s genius mind.
9. Katsuki Bakugo (April 20th)
Known For His Strength, Spirit, And Stellar Character Growth
- First Appearance: Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Anime)
I’ve been observing the captivating character of Katsuki Bakugo in this series. He’s well-known for his dynamic personality, marked by explosive outbursts, and significant impact on the storyline. Interestingly, he shares a long history with Deku, dating back to their childhood when they both admired All Might. However, their relationship has been intricate over time. Born in April, Katsuki is the eldest student in Class 1-A, making him one of the oldest students in his year group.
14-year-old Katsuki makes his appearance as a middle school student, carrying an outsized yet delicate self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy, aspects that are delved into throughout the storyline. However, he evolves into a formidable hero, learning to acknowledge his shortcomings and grow personally. Katsuki harbored the capability to emerge as one of the most potent heroes within the series due to his inherent talent and Explosion Quirk, earning a reputation that struck fear in Shigaraki/All For One during the Final Conflict.
Because of his incredible strength, unyielding determination, and striking resemblance to One For All’s Second Wielder and All For One’s sworn enemy Kudo, Katsuki managed to truly frighten the villain. Despite succumbing to a gruesome death at the hands of the villain, the power within him, augmented by Edgeshot’s Quirk, miraculously revived him.
10. Pony Tsunotori (April 21st)
Naive, But Not To Be Messed With
- First Appearance: Chapter 26 (Manga) Episode 15 (Anime)
Just as Katsuki Bakugo is the eldest in Class 1-A, Pony Tsunotori holds that title in her class, 1-B. Born and raised in America, she’s a new student at U.A. High and still getting accustomed to the Japanese language. Unfortunately, notorious student Neito Monoma takes advantage of this by teaching her to insult Class 1-A, much to his delight.
Initially spotted during the Sports Festival, she later becomes significant in the Joint Training Storyline. Despite appearing somewhat shy and unassuming among her peers, she possesses a hidden strength and skill in combat. She’s always alert to her surroundings and quick to devise strategies to outmaneuver her adversaries. Her distinctive ability, ‘Horn Cannon’, allows her to attack by hurling her horns at opponents.
11. Bubble Girl (April 23rd)
A Unique Fan-Made Character
- First Appearance: Chapter 124 (Manga) Episode 63 (Anime)
Kaoruko Awata, famously known as The Bubble Girl, emerged victorious from a fan art competition and subsequently joined the “My Hero Academia” anime during its fourth season. She serves as an assistant for Sir Nighteye, working alongside Mirio Togata initially, then Deku once he lands a job opportunity under Nighteye. On their first encounter, Deku finds her being reprimanded by Nighteye for failing to be amusing, which surprisingly involves confining her within a tickling machine.
Accompanied by her mentor and several well-known characters, Bubble Girl plays a significant part in the mission aimed at defeating Overhaul. As such, she takes part in the assault on the Shie Hassaikai, leaving an indelible impression on the show with her involvement.
