My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc

It seems that in the My Hero Academia series, there are several characters who have defied the odds and continued to participate in key events despite their injuries or seemingly limited lifespan. Here are three examples of such characters:

The Final War storyline in “My Hero Academia” stands out as among the most gripping and exhilarating, arguably even the most so. With its emotionally charged characters and pulse-pounding battles, there’s no shortage of topics to explore concerning this arc – not just the actual events, but also the hypothetical “what ifs.” In this piece, we delve into one such intriguing speculation.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in this epic conflict, I can’t help but notice how some unexpected characters have managed to make it to the climactic final arc. Though they contribute to the chaos or attempt to quell it, several of these individuals should not be present for various reasons.

7 Hawk

His Injuries Are Too Severe

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc

  • Real Name: Keigo Takami
  • Quirk: Fierce Wings
  • First Appearance: Episode 87

As the second-ranking Pro Hero in Japan and the swiftest hero of this contemporary era, I, Hawk, boast an unquestionable power. My records speak for themselves, as I hold the title of the fastest hero. Moreover, my unique role as a spy grants me unparalleled knowledge about our adversaries’ inner workings. Consequently, it goes without saying that I should be leading the charge in the ongoing battle.

As a gamer, I can rephrase that as follows: Hawk took a heavy toll during my last battle against Dabi and Twice. Their attacks nearly stripped me of every feather on my wings. Given how essential my wings are to my movement and combat abilities, this injury leaves me at a significant disadvantage. The wisdom calls for me to rest and let my feathers regrow, but with no one else able to step up for the Final War, I’m left with no choice but to don prosthetic feathers and push through the pain, despite my injured body.

6 Mirko

Her Injuries Are Too Severe

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Rumi Usagiyama
  • Quirk: Rabbit
  • First Appearance: Episode 87

In the Final War, Mirko, akin to Hawk, bore grievous wounds that typically would have kept her from engaging. During the Jaku Hospital Raid, Mirko found herself confronted by five formidable Nomus with no backup. Remarkably, she held them at bay and even claimed victory over one of them before reinforcements arrived. However, this heroic feat came at a great cost: Mirko lost her right leg and left arm in the course of the battle.

For a fighter heavily dependent on her limbs, this injury is truly debilitating and may very well mark the end of her career. Instead of idly spectating as her comrades engage in life-or-death battles, Mirko chose an unconventional path: she equipped herself with prosthetic weapons to join the fray. Given the dearth of heroes, she courageously took up a position on the frontlines against Tomura Shigaraki, despite her physically compromised state.

5 Grape Juice

He Is Too Weak

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Minoru Mineta
  • Quirk: Pop Off
  • First Appearance: Episode 5

Despite being labeled as the elite freshman class of U.A. Hero Course, Class 1-A, not all its members possess exceptional abilities like Deku or Bakugo. Sadly, some students lack the impressive quirks and physical capabilities required to become effective heroes. At most, they may only qualify for sidekick roles. A case in point is Minoru “Grape Juice” Mineta.

As a fan, I’d describe it like this: With a unique ability to generate adhesive orbs on my cranium at will, I can unleash them as projectiles during combat. However, these balls are not exactly the most effective weapon against formidable adversaries. Despite being outmatched in terms of power and resources compared to the world’s strongest antagonists, I persist in engaging in open conflict with them.

4 Invisible Girl

Her Quirk Is Not Suitable For War

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Toru Hagakure
  • Quirk: Invisibility
  • First Appearance: Episode 5

In contrast to Mineta’s Pop Off ability, Hagakure’s quirk offers practical benefits in everyday life. Initially, she might begin her hero career as a sidekick. However, considering the versatility of her power to become invisible, there is a compelling case for her advancement to a professional hero status. Her unique skill allows her to accomplish tasks such as catching opponents off guard and eliminating threats, or even infiltrating enemies’ hideouts undetected.

In open warfare, invisibility proves to be less effective compared to other situations. Unlike guerrilla wars where the principles of Hagakure excel, open wars involve head-on confrontations between opposing forces. Here, fire, rocks, lasers, and various quirks collide freely on the battlefield. In such a scenario, an invisible girl would be hard-pressed to contribute significantly or even protect herself. Sadly, she might also be inadvertently targeted by her own side due to her lack of visibility. Consequently, it’s advisable for her to avoid participating in the final war.

3 Skeptic

He Should Be Apprehended Before The War

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Tomoyasu Chikazoku
  • Quirk: Anthropomorph
  • First Appearance: Episode 108

The menacing presence of Skeptic isn’t due to his peculiarity, but rather his exceptional hacking abilities. Skeptic single-handedly manages the entire communication system of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Moreover, he can infiltrate the U.A. System, tamper with its hidden bunkers, and even bring the U.A. flying fortress close to a catastrophic fall. However, it turns out that there’s another hacker who surpasses Skeptic in prowess. Her name is La Brava.

Prior to the Final War, La Brava had previously gained unauthorized access to Skeptic’s system, making her well-versed in his work. Surprisingly, the authorities had taken La Brava into custody much earlier than the war’s outbreak. Although she eventually aided them during the conflict, it raises an intriguing point: if the police had asked for La Brava’s help in apprehending Skeptic prior to the war, they could have prevented numerous casualties and damage by capturing him before the fighting began, as well as dismantling the enemy’s communication network.

2 Lady Nagant

She Should Be In Critical Condition

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Kaina Tsutsumi
  • Quirk: Rifle
  • First Appearance: Episode 128

Some people may not notice it, but Lady Nagant actually participates in the Final War. During Deku’s fight against Shigaraki, Lady Nagant fires two shots with her infamous rifle from hundreds of miles away, and both of those shots manage to blow both of Shigaraki’s arms away, which prevents him from destroying the U.A. flying fortress. Incredible though it may be, the fact of the matter is, she shouldn’t be participating at all. In fact, she should still be in a critical condition at that point.

In the memorable clash between Lady Nagant and Deku, it’s not just her defeat that people recall, but also the cause of her near-fatal injury. It wasn’t Deku’s assaults that left her dying, but rather an explosion triggered by All-For-One’s Self-Detonation quirk which he had implanted in her. He activated it when he detected a shift in Lady Nagant’s allegiance. The blast was so devastating that she barely survived. As the war commenced, she lay unconscious in a hospital room. However, upon learning that Deku was engaged in battle against Shigaraki, Lady Nagant roused herself and crawled to the rooftop. She reactivated her wounds, enduring intense agony throughout her body, yet found joy knowing she could assist Deku.

1 Dabi

He Shouldn’t Be Alive

My Hero Academia: Characters Who Should Not Have Lasted Until The Final Arc
  • Real Name: Toya Todoroki
  • Quirk: Blueflame
  • First Appearance: Episode 31

Toya possesses a unique trait at birth, generating flames more intense than his father’s (Endeavor), yet his body is resilient only to cold and not heat. Consequently, using his ability results in self-inflicted burns. This debilitating flaw, coupled with his past of physical abuse from his father, nearly cost him his life during an unintentional wildfire incident years prior.

Unbeknownst to his family, All-For-One and Dr. Kyudai managed to keep Toya alive and even grafted new flesh and skin onto him. According to Dr. Kyudai, that makeshift body was only supposed to last for about a month. Against all odds, he survived to this day. Thanks to losing his sense of pain, Dabi even successfully mastered his blue flame, though he burned most of his body in the process. It is unfathomable how much damage his body has suffered throughout the years. At this point, he is basically a walking corpse.

Dabi would have met his end long before the Last War if not for his relentless desire for retribution against his father. This unquenchable thirst for vengeance keeps him alive despite the many attempts death has made on him.

“He’d kept his dying body tethered to this world through a pure, blazing grudge.”

— Dr. Kyudai, Chapter 350
